I didn't realize it on first read, but seeing your comment, I, too, am confused about OP's point.

I think...I think OP's secret here is that they feel like a hypocrite because they're upset about the treatment of mainstream media marketed to women and how it's judged more harshly as a result of centering on and catering to women, but they really enjoy Reign's James I.

They enjoy Reign's James I so much, that if he were to become the focus of a spinoff show where he could be slashed with other dudes, OP would LOVE it and watch it and participate in its fandom, but they would do so all with the knowledge that they were contributing to the prioritization of male focused media and fandom.

If I were to give OP's secret a translated TL;DR, I'd say it's probably:

"I feel like a bad feminist for wanting this female-led show to spin off this male character in the lead where I can slash him with other dudes." It just gets bogged down in OP's focus on a larger social issue they perceive within the industry.

I mean, they don't actually need a show to slash James I with other dudes. James did enough of that himself. I grant that there probably is not a very large or active community out there writing X rated fanfic about James and his various boyfriends, though.

there's nothing really stopping anyone from slashing any historical figure. But a popular movie, book or tv show certainly increases the chance. More people would be intrigued by the character and set out to research him and discover they essentially have permission from "canon" (aka real life) to go for it.

But I've only seen one fic ever on this topic. Even though this is a relatively tame request compared to, say, George Washington tentacle sex, which is a thing which someone wrote

I have to say, I never imagined that I would ever read the phrase "George Washington tentacle sex."

I really don't know why I'm surprised by this anymore, but I am.

Op here that's exactly what I was trying to say. It did get bogged down.

And I did not want the show to end, and if my only option was "you as a viewer can stay in this world but only if you accept that you'll be watching a more male centric story" I would take that and yes, I would feel weird about it. But I would be having a blast at the same time.
