Considering there are many "legal" ways for big companies to steal content from others (and the fact that many companies have stolen), I don't really have an issue with people making money with fanwork.

I do think you should be attempting to create something original with your fanwork though- draw in a different style, create a product that doesn't exist in the market, basically don't compete with the original work in question.
