I think "it's just their way" is a really easy way to let someone off the hook for not actually expressing their emotions, I guess. It's a really hard line to draw between those things.

I think you just have to take it case by case. What works for one couple doesn't necessarily work for another. What you perceive to be an unhealthy thing might actually be normal and healthy for them. Some women love getting flowers, others would rather feed them to the cat.
