*Snape does something bad*
Snape Fans: There's probably some explanation that will mean it only looks bad! He's a hero at heart.
Snape Haters: Finally! Proof he's a villain! As I've been saying since Book One and we were thrown the red herring that he wasn't the villain.... THAT ONE TIME. But he's totally a real villain.
Every book the same argument. He killed Dumbledore? HERO! PART OF DUMBLEDORE'S PLANS!! vs. VILLAIN! FINALLY SHOWING HIS TRUE COLORS!
So when it ended without either a heartfelt tearful confession that he hated playing the part of the bad guy but saw no other option to maintain his cover, nor a evil MWAHAHAHA finally I can stop pretending to be such a goody-two-shoes and reveal my TRUE VILLAINOUS NATURE! It devolved into squabbling over if the grey was closer to black or if the grey was closer to white.
