There's plenty of "I don't condone death threats BUT" in there, which is basically the same thing as somebody saying "I'm not racist BUT" - everything that follows after the but means you are exactly what you just claimed you're not.
I'm pretty sure there have been quite a few tweets that are deleted now because I know I saw some very gross ones justifying the threats that are not there anymore.

I'm not trying to downplay it, I think you all are trying to overstate it out of some knee-jerk narrative you have in your heads and it bugs me.

Like, it feels like everyone in this thread has just been waiting around for something bad to happen so they can say "Yep! I called it! Fandom's bad in its entirety." The fandom isn't a garbage dump. The fandom isn't the French Revolution during the Reign of Terror. It's the larger narrative I object to.

A fairly sizeable portion of a fandom trying to bully an artist with death threats etc. makes it not a fluffy little cuddlefest in my eyes. I'm not the one saying it's all bad, but this part? Yes, it is bad. And thinking an artist getting death threats over fanart is a bad thing is not a knee-jerk reaction, it's common fucking sense. The fact that you don't seem to think so is pretty creepy. And this is not nearly the only thing that has happened in this fandom. And it won't be the last.

And thinking an artist getting death threats over fanart is a bad thing is not a knee-jerk reaction, it's common fucking sense.

People are talking about how this proves the entire fandom is garbage. That is a knee-jerk over-reaction that's more about your own assumptions and expectations than it is about reality.
