The lady at my workplace defending Nazis. I'm doing my best to be civil and talk to her in a cordial manner, but I'm starting to feel like ramming my head against the wall would be a more productive use of my time.

Ugh, yeah, I've been in a few debates of that sort the past couple days, too.

Seriously, this is not that fucking hard. Nazis are bad. Supporting them and excusing their behavior is bad. Period. End of the goddamn story.

Likewise. It's like... okay, sure, some people get jumped on for really petty dumb shit, and just mentioning what political party you generally side with can start fisticuffs, and it seems like no matter what some politicians say they're always wrong, but.

BUT.

This time there was one side supported by NAZIS. How is this hard?!

How so? Like does she think they had a right to protest or sympathize with the murderer?

She thinks they have a right to protest and, while I fucking hate Nazis, I agreed that they have the right to peaceful assembly, but there's nothing peaceful about marching with shields and swords and torches. She started in with "the other side was armed too" and, when I asked what she thought about the dick that rammed his car into a crowd of people, she maintained that "we don't know all the facts and maybe he was being harassed". Ugh.

There is video circulating of the guy's car being smacked with baseball bats. Cops after he was arrested said he freaked out and panicked. Until there is an official statement there is no way to judge what happened.

Of course there is a way to judge. The guy was a Nazi, so he is automatically in the wrong and deserved whatever the other side did to him. This is not a sarcastic reply, it's what's true.

Do you have video or first hand accounts of that? I checked the wikipedia article about a day ago and only saw an extremely short video that didn't clarify much.

That's not what I'm saying. I just want to better understand the circumstances that lead up to the tragedy.

Thanks, it must have been a glitch or laggy connection on my half. I only saw the first two seconds of that video just about where you hear the scream/wheel but not where the camera moves and you see the crowd and space between. I couldn't make heads or tails of it. Horrifying to see it in whole.

The video is all over the news now, it's not hard to find.

"He backed up the hill. I passed by in front of him. I was on the road for maybe 10, 15 seconds. I moved over to the sidewalk," Kelly told CNN. "And then he came barreling down at full speed in to the crowd, immediately put in to reverse and reversed at speed back up the hill and took off down the side street."

Thanks for taking the time to write this out. What I had beforehand was limited as the video I watched did not play in full and the few news sources I read did not go into detail of the crash. I hope he's held accountable for his actions.

I'd save your breath. Someone who defends Nazis isn't receptive to logic or intelligent reasoning, and they're hardly worth being cordial to except the barest minimum of politeness required for the workplace.
