Have you ever tried a recipe you saw on the internet

[personal profile] dani_phantasma 2017-09-14 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
If so how did it turn out?

I once tried a smores with marshmallow peeps recipe and it ended up kinda burnt because I had no idea what I was doing and was in a bit of a rush to do it before mom got home.

It still tasted pretty good. Just didn't look pretty. I also tried some candy corn white chocolate hot chocolate drink which was excellent but the ingredients could be pretty hard to conceal from my parents. Sigh

Now I miss working at a grocery store again.

Oh yeah, all the time. I'd say most of the things I cook are from recipes I found on the internet, though I might've changed it over time. I'm making this right now:

It's good. Very different compared to what most people think of as spaghetti sauce, but very good.

Oh nice. I imagine it must be good on spaghetti.

It is. Good comfort food for winter, too.

My gosh, what haven't I tried from an online recipe.

Off the top of my head:

*Lamb shanks (good, but needed more liquid)
*Lemon thyme garlic chicken roast (amazing)
*tomato sauce w/pork necks (amazing)
*bone stock (didn't gel as much as expected)
*chicken foot stock (amazing)
*turmeric ginger garlic lemon chicken soup for colds (made with above bone stock - it anti-inflammatoried the fuck out of everything)
*lobster thermador (very good, but a lot of effort)
*yakitori (yum!)
*cream of mushroom soup (though this recipe had so much cream and butter... oh god, it was a stew. it was mushroom cream stew and it is mushroom heaven)
*buffalo chicken chili (freezes very well)
*mulled wine (/purr)
*mulled mead (/purrrrrrr)
*hot buttered rum (/PURRRRRRR)

...I really like to try recipes I find on the internet is where I'm going here.

They usually turn it great. Alton Brown's overnight cinnamon rolls are amazing.

Oh gosh those do sound good. Looove cinnamon rolls. My late grandma made some one Christmas and I wish I knew the recipe she used.

I've tried a bunch of recipes I've seen on the internet. Most of them came out pretty good. My favorite is this vegan navy bean soup which apparently has been floating around on the internet for ages but I'm not sure where to find it now. (I have it just about memorized.)

I've also tried mug brownies but I stopped keeping the ingredients at home because I have no self control and I eat enough junk as it is.

Oh I feel you on mug brownies. i'd be eating those constantly, if I could. I only ever get my brownie fix from Hungry Man meals which usually come with a meal at least.

That's awesome!

What kind of foods do you like most? I gravitate towards sweet tastes myself.

I like vegetable dishes that are not just plain old steamed or another stir fry (Im not vegan/vegetarian, I've just been adding more veggies to my diet and looking for recipes that taste good and are healthy), and my favorites so far have been a salad with a wonderfully seasoned steak, a roasted glazed rainbow carrots dish (they get so sweet when they're roasted!), and a roasted brussel sprouts recipe. But I also like cocktail and appetizer recipes: found a great keoke coffee one and a good recipe for crab rangoons!

Ever since I discovered mug brownies exist, once in awhile I break out the baking supplies and experiment. And I made brown rice mochi, but I dunno if that counts because I went hunting for the recipe, I didn't just stumble on it. Actually I've gone looking for recipes online a lot. Most of them turn out, but I usually start experimenting with them and sometimes the experiments aren't rousing successes.

Mug brownies are awesome. I tend to bake mine a certain way so they're mostly cooked through but incredibly gooey.

I made Fondant Potatoes after seeing a video on it! They were surprisingly simple to make, and holy fuck were they delicious. They're becoming a staple of my cooking now.

I regularly make recipes I find online, they usually turn out okay c: The other night i made this and it was very tasty, but i think I could've cooked the flour and butter a bit longer before adding the milk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=663GZDrveZw

I've tried a few. French potato salad, coleslaw, pancakes, butternut soup... My current fave is deer racks and a redwine sauce.

I have a rule of only really using recipes that are on Australian sites, because all the work of converting from Imperial to Metric is a pain.

However I did once use a recipe someone came up with for Lembas (LotR waybread) that was basically a honey-flavoured shortbread, only I used non-gluten flour in it. It worked out fine, if a tad too sweet for my liking.

My other big cooking adventure was into pumpkin pie, and I did refer to an Aussie website for it. It turned out great the first time, less so the second but that wasn't the recipe's fault, more the fault of me deciding to not put it in a pie shell. I probably did change one thing in it - I baked the pumpkin that I used both times. Better flavour in baking it.

I got a recipe for honeydew melon water ice off the internet, and it was delicious and refreshing.

And the recipe I now use for vegetarian stuffed peppers and tomatoes is a combination of recipes from mylittleexpatkitchen and mygreekdish, among others.

But my God, why would you contaminate hot chocolate with candy corn? That stuff is the devil's work.
