I for one really loved the premiere. Haven't seen the second episode yet. But the idea of a First Officer main character who commits mutiny is fascinating to me. And it will be great to see the beginnings of war with the Klingons.

I did not love the premiere because I didn't particularly like Michael and everything about the Klingons bugged me, right down to the font on their subtitles. I liked it a little more after the second half (but if I weren't already paying for All Access I wouldn't have bought it after the first), and really liked the greater season teaser that came after it.

There's more I want to say about the mutiny, but I can't remember if any of it spoils ep 2.

I was on the fence as to whether I liked it or not. The storyline held my attention, which is always a good thing, and I think it picked up as it went along. But I find the focus on the Klingons a bit tiresome, even though I know it makes sense for the timeframe. And I wasn't sure how I felt about the lighting, etc.

However, since I live in Canada, it will be airing on Space, and I already have that channel, so I don't have to sign up for anything more, and I will be tuning in to see Jason Isaacs. So we'll see!

I was underwhelmed.

How did I not realize where they were setting this in the timeline? The mutiny angle was kind of interesting. The whole first act was baffling if they were really supposed to have been working together for so long - them not trusting each other, the first officer not paying attention for long enough for them to make that symbol, the remark about sarcasm, the way the science officer and first officer interact. Maybe I missed something.

Apparently they are trying to be like Game of Thrones or...be relevant in a "post-Game of Thrones" world was one thing phrase I saw used, in that they think successful tv show = making you fall in love with a character and then killing them off. So I kind of hate that, and I hate that there was already a death like that, and I don't like the Klingon design. I'm not normally vain about character designs but I like Klingons and I'm afraid they won't be relatable (to me personally).

But I plan on sticking with it for a little while at least. I know at least one of the writers is a Voyager novel writer and it shows (in a good way). It felt very much like the beginning of a book and I liked that about it. I also liked Michael more than probably a lot of people did. The intro music is also fucking awesome.

The future is Dutch (angles).

I liked it, enough to take a gamble on later episodes (it helps that I already watch Elementary, which may tip the "all access" equation a bit). Star Trek pilots usually have some rough spots.
