Has anyone read the book? I haven't but I heard it is a pretty short read.

It's a trilogy apparently...and two of the characters are apparently supposed to be Asian and part Native but don't seem to be.

I'm curious enough about it, very Arrival-vibeing, but I want to see about that race situation before I throw money at it.

I am going to go see it. I was just wondering if I should read the book first or after. I usually read before.

I find it easier to read the book already imagining the people in the movie in the roles.

Yeah, they didn't go with casting that. That said, the ethnicity of the women in the first book isn't nearly as important as Control and the Assistant Director in the second book.

Yeah, and Arrival was amazing so I trust the director.

Garland didn't direct Arrival.

Woops! I meant Ex Machina. Arrival is the Bladerunner sequel guy.

Cautiously looking forward to it. I'll go see it regardless because the trilogy is one of the best reads of the last few years, so we'll see how it translates.

It's possibly the only trailer of the year where the use of "BWWWWWOOOOMMMMMM" is slightly appropriate.

So I should probably read the books first?

It's really hard to say since we don't know how it's going to be adapted (and a lot of people think the series is unfilmable for various reasons), so I'll say of course read the books if you're into creepy ecological horror and weird. At least read Annihilation. It seems that about half of the people who love Annihilation bounce off Authority (which is superficially a different genre). Acceptance wraps things up but one of the narrative threads really drags.

Huh. That sounds and looks interesting. I like that the four main characters are women, and i like those actors, so....neat! Thanks!
