This is how I feel. There are some other fandoms that I think have great worldbuilding. But nothing comes close to Tolkien. I honestly think the fact that he created the languages first is part of that. He created a world that feels lived in. And as a linguist, he knew how languages would develop and change. So his world just feels very real.

I understand people have changed the way they watch television and that in turn has chaged how television shows are made. Many creators now favor season-long story arcs as opposed to the episodic style that used to be more popular when syndication was a major factor.

I get that. I really do.

But I really miss standalone episodes, where you didn't have to watch the whole season in chronological order to enjoy or understand it.

I feel there's currently too much backflow from fandom spaces into Watsonian canon decisions.

and meta commentary in particular isn't nearly as funny as show writers think it is, esp when it mocks the people who actually give a shit (ie the fans)
