Are you looking for a specific fandom? because I think that makes a difference. there are a ton of LOTR, Hobbit, Star Wars, and Star Trek videos set to music of other genres.

Not in particular. I like reboot Trek, LOTR, MCU, Sherlock, uhhhh most other big ones. I'll take any fandoms.

To have just a fraction of their talent...

I love vids and would be happy to rec some, but I don't want to pull together a bunch of recs if they're not actually what you're looking for.

First question: Do you consider indie to be pop/rock? Like, The National, Airborn Toxic Event, TV On the Radio, that kind of thing? What about popular rap music? Like, how far away from radio top 40 do we have to get here?

And do you have any fandoms you're particularly interested in/not interested in?

Some indie is pop. I would not consider the three you mentioned as pop. I would love some set to rap music. I will take techno, dubstep, Hell even country.

I can't think of many fandoms I am completely not interested in. Maybe Star Wars and DCU if looking at the big ones. But I am open to most fandoms (and multi fandom).

Welp. Maybe some of these will suit you.

TERMINATOR: SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES: DLZ by bop_radar

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xa4u4uPuIrw

ABOUT: One of my all time favorite vids. Dark, eerie, conceptually complex, and epic. This vid encapsulates the series for me.

COMMUNITY: Sex and Reruns - greensilver

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbpLrktBMxQ

ABOUT: Ensemble vid. Oddly heartwarming and comforting.

BSG: Sometime Around Midnight by bop_radar

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbXUEHqCiaI

ABOUT: Kara and Lee's relationship in vid form. Epic, moving, and basically perfect.

BSG: About Today by Beccatoria

https://beccatoria.dreamwidth.org/76110.html?thread=849998

ABOUT: Kind of an ensemble vid, but with Bill Adama at the center. Heartbreaking. DL link still works.

HANNIBAL: Loose Lips Sink Ships by Shainira

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyXkSPFuI34&index=10&list=FLlN8djR3loIt9BX2oVngndw

ABOUT: My favorite Hannibal vid. Gorgeous, dark, and disturbing.

SPN: People In Cars Don't Face Each Other by Frozensify

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7bAABTej_4

ABOUT: One of the most beautiful and touching fanvids I've ever seen (and I'm not even a big SPN fan). More country/indie/folk than rock...I think?

X-FILES: Matches to Paper Dolls - Astarte

https://astarte.dreamwidth.org/80620.html

ABOUT: Killer Scully-centric vid. Everything this vidder does is excellent. I can particularly recommend all of her XF vids.

X-FILES: Subterranean Homesick Blues by Luminosity and Tzikeh

http://www.criticalcommons.org/Members/Luminosity/clips/x-files-subterranean-homesick-blues#

ABOUT: Bob Dylan meets The X-Files. Poor resolution, but super clever editing. A fandom classic.

X-Files: Hell of A Place by GiandujaKiss

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYm4QlgGQK4

ABOUT: Probably a rock vid, but it's obscure rock? Honestly, it's just my fave XF vid is all.

BREAKING BAD: Bloodbuzz Ohio by f1renze

http://f1renze.livejournal.com/219264.html

ABOUT: My fave Breaking Bad vid.

BUFFY: Creep by brad_cpu

http://bradcpu.livejournal.com/61881.html

ABOUT: Faith's sense of self, Spike's sense of self, Buffy's sense of self, and the relationships between them. Yup, it's using THAT radiohead song. But it's damn good. And Creep is grunge, right? Not rock? Lol, I seriously have no concept of musical genres. The DL link works.

BUFFY: Origin Stories by Gianduja Kiss

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLfG_-kTyx8

ABOUT: A conceptually complex rap vid that is critical of its source text. Mostly racial commentary regarding the way the series handles characters of color.

FIREFLY: People Gotta Lotta Nerve by obsessive24

http://obsessive24.livejournal.com/301558.html

ABOUT: River-centric and awesome. Might count as pop/rock, not sure (Neko Case isn't exactly obscure).

FIREFLY: The Girl Or The Weapon - kiki_miserychic

http://kiki-miserychic.livejournal.com/105656.html

ABOUT: Instrumental, River-centric, and really, really good. Not sure if the embedded vid will work for you. It isn't showing up for me, but something might be out of date on my computer.

ALL JOSS WHEDON PROPERTIES: This Is the Picture by obsessive24

http://obsessive24.livejournal.com/356478.html

ABOUT: I only rec this if you like most/all of Joss Whedon's stuff. But if you do, then it's pretty cool. Vimeo link still works.

GONE WITH THE WIND: Gold Digger by AbsoluteDestiny

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnRVIBJmshY

ABOUT: The mashup of the song and the text here is pretty awesome. A vidding classic.

DARK ANGEL: Me and My 424 by LC

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiRLQxw9JZE

ABOUT: Logan's relationship with technology, his body which relies on technology, and Max (who is also, in a way, technology). Not the slickest vid in terms of editing. It's a little rough and dated. But the concept is solid, and there aren't a ton of vids in the Dark Angel fandom, so if DA was ever your jam, this is a good vid for you.

SHERLOCK: The Yearly Revolution by Serenity S

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzQl3Jxh72E&index=5&list=FLlN8djR3loIt9BX2oVngndw

ABOUT: A gorgoues short instrumental vid. Give the mess the series eventually became, this vid might seem...jarringly lovely by comparison. But it is lovely, still.

SHERLOCK: Humming One of Your Songs by greensilver

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzQ4tHNMLRA

ABOUT: Subtle, delicate, sweet and melancholy. Another vid that may seem jarringly lovely now, after what became of the series.

Re: Welp. Maybe some of these will suit you.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-29 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely not pop/rock:

MULTIFANDOM: I Enjoy Being a Girl by AbsoluteDestiny

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUMvjgSzLAw

And you mentioned techno. I think this is techno?

THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (SWEEDISH AND AMERICAN): Smack My Bitch Up by hollywoodgrrl

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qO6kdJ9zt2Y

Just as a warning, though, this vid does involve The Prodigy singing "smack my bitch up" as Lisbeth gets brutally raped. I mean, it's commentary, but still just fyi.

These were great! I especially loved the X-Files - Hell of a Place, the Breaking Bad - The National one (I love the National), the Origin Stories BTVS, all the Joss Whedon ones, and both Sherlock ones. Thank you for so many videos!

One of my favourite Person Of Interest vids using a brilliant cover of Call Me Maybe.
