This is grammar but because it annoys me so much: Switching tenses. If the story is great otherwise and the author just switched once and then stays in the new tense, I might make an exception, but any more than once is a guaranteed backbutton for me.

Using words that don't have a meaning in the fandom universe. Like using geographically or historically coined terms in a Fantasy or Sci-Fi world where those places/historical contexts don't exist and wouldn't make sense (I've actually seen this in published fiction a lot as well.)

Bad research. Not for small thing, but if people write, for example, a Japanese highschool like an American one with all the silly tropes neatly in place, that's annoying.

As others have said, pet names that are OOC and/or never used in canon. Same goes for taking a pet name/joke from the canon and repeating it ad nauseam.

Characters being used as author mouthpieces and for soapbox-preaching. Especially if the character wouldn't give a flying fuck about the topic the author makes them preach about.

Issue fic.

I actually like present tense if it fits the story. Some types of fic don't work with anything else and it can be a great stylistic choice if used properly.
First person, I'm not too keen on, but it depends. I personally prefer fic to not be from the POV of my favourite character, because it's so much easier to write them OOC that way.

God, this. I've always been kind of fascinated by how hard some people find it to manage their tenses consistently. Like, I don't consider myself a good fic writer. And I've beta'd for fic writers who I consider to be considerably better than me. And a couple of those fic writers had problems with their tenses, which was a really interesting discovery for me, because I've never found tenses difficult at all, so it seemed incongruous that these really strong writers had this one weakness that I'd always associated with weak writing.

I'm not even a native speaker but I bugs me so much. And with my own writing, I keep searching over and over if I made this mistake before posting.
I mean, sure, you can miss it once. Especially when writing in present tense, I admit it can be tricky (which is one of the reasons a lot of stories in present tense are so bad). But how can you not notice switching tenses multiple times throughout a short fic? It's just so jarring!
Drives me mad when those people actually say they have beta readers. How?
