The first time I read about that was in Laurence Olivier's autobiography; I can't remember the details, or who'd come up with the interpretation at the time, and I don't own the book so I can't look it up, but he mentions trying, and not quite succeeding to convey that on stage...

What's the correct pronunciation of "manga" and "anime"? I'm certain I'm doing both wrong, which is why I refer to them orally as "Japanese comics" and "Japanese animation" so that I don't get the gas-face if I say it wrong.

'manga' if pronounced mahn-gah, the A is like 'awwe.'

'anime' is pronounced an-i-may, the 'an' is like the girl's name Anne and the I is short like 'in.'

It's not just them-they're just the most extreme example that sprang to mind. All the young new actors and musicians just don't do it for me anymore, regardless of age. It's that too much stupid hair thing.
