That's not necessarily true. I was actually surprised more old school fans didn't kick up a fuss about the Doctor telling anyone his name (particularly with the implication that it may be revealed to the audience) considering that he's managed to neatly dodge that question for centuries.

And as far as the 'I don't know what he sees in her,' I think the phrasing is poor, but I understand the sentiment. River Song was a fantastic, amazing idea, but I don't think that Moffat's writing was up to par when he wrote those two episodes. As a character, River didn't engage me at all.

So I'm not entirely sure how it relates to the Tenth Doctor at all?

Oh, I agree. I was bothered by it (mainly because I would hate to have anyone say it. What can possibly live up to all that hype? Unless it's 'Bob.' River certainly spoke quickly enough for it to be 'Bob.' Or, the way names are going this season, 'Rainbow Sunshine Moonbeam.' In which case: valid reason for hiding his name) but I do believe that he might say it, particularly to someone as important as River almost definitely is. I meant that I was surprised there wasn't more of a fuss about it. Then again, I was probably looking in the wrong places.

I'll agree to disagree with you on the 'how it was played out' because I really thought the idea was fascinating, but Moffat was weak on how he executed it. And not in all parts, even - I loved the diary! - but I simply didn't feel he wrote River as dimensionally as her awesome idea deserved. That, however, isn't something I'm particularly bothered by in the grand scheme of things, since even if she isn't developed to my satisfaction when she returns (I'm going to assume she'll return one day) I can just pretend that she and the Doctor had an awesome, interesting, engaging relationship off-screen and they had a fantastic wedding, which probably occured before their first date in the Doctor's relative timeline.

Okay, I understand now. I do hope that the OP didn't post simply because of The Hotness. Because that's just... no. (Not all new school fans are bad, though! I was one once! ...and then I watched a Third Doctor serial and that was the end of that, but still.)

It so very much is Bob.

(Oh, I read that and loved it! Really nicely done, and not an easy task as far as setting up a piece goes, either) Yes, I do agree! It wasn't really a terrible episode, and those sorts of ideas were very interestingly done.

I do understand. RabidRoseFen are maybe not as common as they seem, but they're visible enough to help divide the fandom (hah, that sounds so dramatic). There are of course others who help create the sentiment, but it's... well, yes. I know how it goes.

My reference to Ten was only that most new!school fans are all about The Hotness and not about The Storyline.

...Um, but the storyline was extremely poorly done. *watches classic Who as well and does not give two shits about Tennant's hotness or any other Who/TW male's hotness for that matter.*

...How does that change anything I said? It's exactly the statement that you explained why you referenced Ten in that I was replying to, not your thoughts on the storyline- but your statement that new Who fans are mostly about hotness and not the storyline. I disagreed.

There's the 'paradox' handwave. I mean, he has to tell her his name when he meets her in the future, because he knows she has to know it when she meets him in the library - it's already happened.

That's a very valid handwave. I suppose that makes sense. Though I hope it isn't why he does it, for the same reason I hope a paradox isn't the reason he ends up in a relationship with River.

Yeah, same here.
