Censoring slurs on the internet. It should be obvious from the context that you’re not using it against someone.

The argument is that those words are wrong in and of themselves, not just when used as invective against someone else.

It's part of communication though. Saying "Man, my computer is being a c*** right now" is sort of along the lines of saying "This is really frickin' messed up."

Why say frickin' or freaking or any of the others when everyone knows what F word you're hinting at? Because they communicate different tones.

Then use the lesser swear word? Why opt for the stronger one when you’re gonna censor it.

I always forget that cunt is such a strong swear word in the US.

Yeah, I'm Canadian, and I'm pretty relaxed about swearing, but if I hear a Canadian guy using "cunt" in public, I generally regard that as a sign to keep him at arms length. (Not a big fan of women using it either, but as it is essentially a gendered slur, it bothers me less when women use it, as long as they're not using it to attack each other.)

OTOH, I don't hold the British Isles crowd to the same standards, since I know that it just doesn't carry the same weight over there.
