Man, I always think "you weren't actually poor growing up, your dad just wouldn't let your mom or you spend money on 'non-essentials,'" and then I read something like this and realize some people don't feel like greedy capitalist pigs the first time they buy another set of sheets so they can switch out the one they're washing instead of having to wait until it dries and put it back. I feel this way about shoes, too, but there's plenty of stuff I buy without a second thought, and I buy sheets from thrift stores for costume mockups whenever I need cheap cotton fabric. Brains are weird.
