The gruff asshole who is actually a big softie.

I tend to like those, too.

Friends who have the heterosexual life partner dynamic. I love that.

Me tooo. I enjoy this type of dynamic way better than most romances (which are very rarely done in a way that I like).

Villains who know what they are and don't care. Villains who take joy in being evil.

But also misguided villains who at least start out wanting to do good, just don't know the right way to do it. when these two are combined together in a progression? The best thing ever.

Heroes who are selfless and self-sacrificing and always doing things for other people and willing to risk their lives.

A badass female character who is a natural leader and everyone does as she says (Susan Ivanova, you are the best).

The mentor figure who helps and teaches but doesn't micro-manage, who is old and has seen a lot and who maybe has a personal connection to the villain.

The adventurous character who is eager to get out there and do things, particularly in fantasy and scifi. The character who just takes joy in things.

Spoiled princesses with hearts of gold who are particular and fussy but love helping their friends.

The asshole who is like "I'm just here for a paycheck I hate you all."

The competent, tough girl who sometimes forgets to treat people like human beings but never means harm.

The tough loner dude who is all "Grrr! I hate people!" but then he has to take care of a kid or two and he becomes all protective and paternal.

Same. Though it bothers me more when tough loner women do this. I guess it's the implication that they're finally letting their "real" womanly side out or something.

I love the female equivalent in theory. The problem is that those male characters are more likely to take the fridged family backstory while the woman is just a tough independent type waiting to be tamed by the right maternal instincts despite always claiming she wasn't like that.

I want more male sluts. As in male characters that fit the female sex positive character tropes: like to show skin, flirt with everyone. I also want more sex-positive female characters where this is only shown by how much skin they show.

I love token evil team mates.

The Atoner. I love a good story where a character tries to make up for their past misdeeds.

Older (even elderly) guys who are genuinely nice and don't spend all their time complaining that the world isn't like it used to be. (Being secretly badass is a plus but not absolutely necessary.)

Older badass guys are great. I especially love them as mentor figures who seem harmless at first but turn out to be extremely badass and someone you don't want to mess with.

Tricksters

Big, tough scary-looking dudes who are actually sweet, soft boys.

Give me someone who has been through heaps of shit their entire life but are kind-hearted souls despite it all and I will adore the shit out of them.

The same goes for the outwardly gruff, but has a soft heart type as well.

Also just genuinely sweet and kind people, I love them too.

Women who are smoothly competent at work but deal with a lot of baggage at home.

Spies.

Guilt-ridden messes who convincingly have a hard time knowing when a situation is or isn't their fault/responsibility.

Deadpan snarkers (provided it's not their only character trait).

Quietly competent characters.

The types who are generally calm and caring and it takes a lot of work to really piss them off but as soon as that happens: RUN.

The reluctant hero who's just kinda resigned to his fate.

Ahaha, YES. I love this, too :D. I like it when characters reveal sides of themselves that you wouldn't expect them to have.

Morally grey characters who find themselves either doing something good or evil. But only if the series doesn't try and portray them as a hero or a monster.

Basically what Breaking Bad wanted to be but it disappeared up its own ass too quickly.
