Haha, where have you been? There's a strong streak of judgment in fandom and even here on FS where people criticize ships that are problematic or unhealthy. People will imply (or straight up accuse) that liking problematic ships must make you a pervert or whatever.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-27 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, first of all, i think it's a little more complicated than that? For instance its different for different kinds of problematic?

Second, that doesn't really change what I said about it being popular, I don't think

Are we limited to only making secrets about rare opinions? Don't forget that harshly judging people for their shipping preferences is also extremely popular.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-27 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Is there something wrong about saying something is popular?

(Anonymous) 2017-10-27 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No. I'm just getting a weird "why is this a secret" vibe off your comment when you say "I mean, no offense, but isn't this incredibly common, inside fandom and outside?" I'm not sure why that's relevant, tbh. Even if OP's preferences are popular, they'd still get plenty of grief about it from a very vocal segment of fandom.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-27 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
No, sorry if it came off that way. I wasn't really trying to say it wasn't a secret - more that saying it was common would be taken as some kind of an insult I guess?

I'm sorry if it's an irrelevant response. Dunno what to tell you. It seems like a reasonable response to me. There's a lot of it out there.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Okay. I guess I don't really understand the point of your original comment then. The secret doesn't claim to be an unusual opinion so bringing up how common it is, in your opinion seems... out of left field?

(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry. It was just what I thought when I read the secret - that a very large number of people seem to feel the way that OP does.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Well. Okay. But so what? I don't mean to sound rude, but secrets don't have to be about minority opinions or rare opinions, and OP never claimed their preferences weren't also held by a significant number of people. That's why I thought you were questioning the legitimacy of the secret - because you brought up a topic out of nowhere, and prefaced it with "I mean, no offense"!

(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry.

Meanwhile, in the real world non-niche normiesphere, young naive woman getting "taught" and "broken down" by older experienced man is one of the most normalized, accepted, and played out tropes in the entirety of the human race. Quit acting like your kink is actually persecuted, anon.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
DA. How about you stop acting like an utter asshole about other people's kinks instead.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Stop acting like you're a poor oppressed victim for liking the most entrenched, normalized kink of all time. God forbid one niche little facet of the world actually point out this kink is, y'know, a little fucked and problematic. You still see this young innocent woman/creepy Alpha Olderman McChad literally everywhere in normie media, so stop whining.
