I work for a healthcare organization scheduling specialty appointments. We have an epic fuckton of referrals on a daily basis.

When the doctor makes a referral, they are supposed to tell the patient to call us to schedule the appointment. Instead they call us (or have the nurses do it) to either badger us about why the patient hadn't been called yet, or to try to schedule an appointment for the patient, which is against policy because we don't want to schedule an appointment that the patient won't be able to keep. Even though this has been policy for years now, we still get people who claim to be shocked! Shocked! that we won't just schedule with them and cross our fingers that the patient can actually come.
