Am I the only one who doesn't think 14 is a helpless child uwu? Like, yeah, if you're 26, don't hit on a 14 year old, that's weird, but... 14 year olds have sex. They're not virginal pristine nuns.

Hi. What part of 26+14 is creepy don't do that, did you miss? But people keep throwing the word 'child' around on all of this and I think that it's a) intentionally inflammatory, and b) insulting to teenagers to act like they don't know what sex is.

NO ONE SHOULD DO ANYTHING TO ANYONE OF ANY AGE WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT (and honestly, people should practice the 'half your age+7' rule if you're at an age where a gap is going to be looked upon as weird). This is a no brainer. But acting like a 14 year old would never want sex or has no clue what sex is is ridiculous.

Because just describing it as "creepy" and "weird" understates the degree of its wrongness. It's not just, like, a little iffy.

The question is not whether a 14 year old would want to have sex. The question is whether a 14 year old is ever capable of consenting to having sex with an adult, and the answer is no.

Hitting on a 14 year old is not just "weird". It is predatory and morally wrong. Calling it "weird" and saying that people who are objecting to it are prudes is fucked up. What on earth is this opinion.

Did I call them fucking prudes? No. I completely agree that it's wrong. I just don't like the word 'child' and 'pedophilia' being flung around when it's not the truth and it's like throwing gasoline on a fire for no reason.

Why does anyone who isn't of legal age need to be a helpless child? Anthony Rapp has been traumatized by the experience of Spacey making advancements on him.

14 isn't a fully developed brain that can cling onto anything and apply it to who you are as a growing person.

I don't think the issue is that 14 year olds are "virginal pristine nuns," it's that there's a big difference in power and experience between a 26 year old and a 14 year old. I had older people hit on me as a preteen and young teenager, and the creepy things to me were: that I was never sure at the time whether the person was hitting on me or not, due to lack of experience (now, I can look back on it and see that they obviously were), and that I still felt like I was supposed to be polite to adults and that outright disobeying them could get me in trouble. All that "respect your elders" stuff. So felt like I had to try to weasel out of the situation without offending anyone, plus I couldn't outright say anything, because what if I was wrong and just imagining something more sinister in an innocent interaction?

I wasn't a "pristine nun" in my mind (I was a virgin), but I didn't have the life experience to really know what was going on and I didn't feel like I had the right to fully stand up to adults.

People are missing that even if Rapp were 49 (Terry Crews's age) it would still be wrong to throw another person onto a bed and climb on top of them, without permission, because you want sex.

And not just about Spacey either, the whole point of #metoo is to point out how sexual harassment and abuse are epidemic within certain industry cultures. Spacey's just one of the more notorious chickenhawks/dirty old men of show business.

Sex with each other. There is an ocean between two 14 year olds having sex and a 26 year old pinning a 14 year old to a bed.
