Re: This twitter thread (LGBT and consent)

See, this I can't understand. I can COMPLETELY understand them getting their asses handed to them if they KNEW and still went through with it (consent or no consent), but saying that you're in trouble because someone lied to you (and backed it up with an ID, that I personally wouldn't know a fake from a real unless it was reaaaally crappy) doesn't make sense to me.

I agree that teens+adults should not equal sex. There's so much dumb going on in teenagers brains that they're not thinking about future consequences even if they think they want this right then. But penalizing someone because that person they had sex with suddenly turns out NOT to be the age they thought seems stupid.

Because if you are an adult, it is your moral responsibility to make sure that the person you are sleeping with is capable of consenting, and does consent, to having sex with you.

So, are we asking to see birth certificates now, or are those easily forged too?

You can decide for yourself what standards of proof you're comfortable with

but the point is that if you fuck up it's going to be on you

Welp. I want to have sex now even less than I wanted it before, and that bar was at zero...

Like, I understand personal responsibility, but this is almost borderline, "If two drunk people have sex, it was rape because they couldn't consent." levels of wtf.

We can talk fuzzy hypotheticals until the cows come home. The facts are:

1. Spacey and Rapp were professional colleagues working in New York at the time. Rapp was specifically invited because of the show he performed in. There's no false identity going on here.

2. Even if Rapp had been of the age of majority, the actions of forcibly throwing him onto a bed, and physically climbing on top of him without consent would have been sexual assault anyway.

EDIT: And a lot of adults do, in fact, talk about the kinds of sex we want to have with each other, as part of foreplay no less.

But, I mean, to be frank, you're quite unlikely to have a serious problem with it unless you're having a lot of anonymous sex with people younger than you

Look, I see what you're getting at in theory - This situation with the fake IDs and teens who actively try to look older to get into a celebrity's pants was an issue in the whole "omg, David Bowie was a pedophile" bullshit and I think that if it's a teen with fake ID and half disguised to look older, the blame is not entirely on the adult/the teen isn't some hapless little victim.

But this case with Spacey? Not in any way as vague and "he couldn't have known" as you try to make it.
