It's not that the movie didn't try to for dramatic character moments, but even those kind of fell flat for me TBH. I did have fun with the comedy aspect of the bizarre stuff that goes down, but I also couldn't help thinking, UGH, I would LOVE to watch a movie where all of these trials happen to Thor but he reacts the way he would react.

Honestly, I think one of the problems with Thor is that almost nobody knows what to do with him, or what his personality even is. I think I saw a snippet of interview that Hemsworth was talking about it and saying he was kind of sick of Thor and wanted to shake it up a bit, and the director felt the same way. To me that's really a symptom that somewhere Thor's personality got lost. I think, in some ways, Thor is actually more difficult to write than you'd expect. Because he's not human, he's from a very long-lived race, and his interactions with the universe should reflect that. In a way, maybe he's not supposed to have character development, like the Greek Gods don't really have any, but they have specific traits.
Done properly, that could actually create an interesting, subtle dissonance with the other characters, if Thor is just a little out-of-sync with them, and a little weirded out by the rapid shifts in their personalities and such.

.......sorry for the ramble, I guess I just have thoughts about Thor

That makes me sad, because I love Avengers Assemble Thor. He's dignified, but with a sense of humor, stubborn, loyal, honorable. I guess maybe the biggest problem is he's a fantastic ensemble character, but hard to do a solo thing with? He plays better off the other characters.

But that is kind of how Thor acts? I mean, complaining that he doesn't act the way he should react seems specious in light of the fact we have no idea how a thousand-year-old god would react to, say, being betrayed by his brother in Avengers. I actually enjoy how kind of ding-proof Thor is *because* yeah, he's a god, for pete's sake. This shit should bounce off him to a certain extent--he's seen entire civilizations go under, he's battled epic battles countless times. I thought his reactions in Ragnarok were pretty realistic in light of that. But eh, mileage totally will vary because I'm no vampire.

But I really enjoyed what they did with his and Loki's character in this one. Seemed like a realistic progression from the previous film instead of everything being happy sunshine.

And I wouldn't give up Thor's scenes with the Grand Master for anything.

Absolutely! The movie's plot was actually pretty dark at its core but all of that was completely drowned out by the obsession to have a joke in just about every scene.
It was very entertaining while watching it, no doubt about that, but I got this slight feeling of wasted potential afterwards.
I also thought it was weird how quickly the Warrior Three were killed off without them being mentioned again.

Thor had the occasional "woe is me, everyone is dying" moment but it kind of felt tacked on as an afterthought in a lot of cases, almost as if someone went "oh damn, right, we still had a plot beneath all these jokes, maybe we should make a reference to that once in a while". It wasn't all bad and I had a lot of fun, but still, a bit less of the obvious jokes and a bit more of the dark undertones bleeding through could have been so great.

I think Loki was sorely underutilised as well - he didnt do much aside from being manhandled and being the butt of the joke most of the times. Doing this is alright but it got a bit one-note after a while.
