With that logic, no one should ship anything in any ongoing canon ever, because at any moment the writers may reveal that characters who were previously thought to be unrelated are in fact related.

I don't have a problem with people shipping incest.

Because it's true. Reylo might be incest. We don't know yet. It's a possibility.

So what did you think of The Last Jedi?

I listen to Daisy's interviews. Especially one of her early ones. Where she said it was "obvious."

Kathleen Kennedy has also stated that the main trilogy films are about the Skywalker Family. And Rey is at the center.

I'd be very interested to see that quote, because Google is turning up nothing. That also doesn't sound like Daisy; she's very good about not answering questions about Rey's parents.

This interview, 3 minutes in. It's also where the infamous clips of Mark looking at her all askance came from.

That just reiterates what Daisy said last year about how she thought questions had been answered, but then met people who asked her about it. (It's why I'm in the Rey Nobody camp myself.)

Mark has that expression before he looks at Daisy, though, and he's an infamous troll.

No it literally reiterates that Luke is her dad. They just can't say it out right. That and she's known who they are from day 1. She's confused and surprised that people still don't get it.

You could make an argument that Finn and Poe are randomly related that's roughly as convincing as Rey Skywalker/Rey Solo arguments.

...no. No you can't.

Rey's story follows her grandfather's and Luke's with small differences, she gets the heirloom Lightsaber, and Daisy has mentioned the similarities to ESB and TFA where it comes to the parentage thing. I.E. It's obvious.

The Star Wars protagonists have such laughably standard storylines that it's absurd to use them as proof.

Seriously? Seriously? That's WHY they are proof.

What is with you people and not wanting her to be a Skywalker?

Different protagonists both embarking on the hero's journey is proof that they're related?

Then why make it a secret, if it's "SO fucking obvious"? Have Maz tell Rey; Rey would never have rejected her destiny with that information. And the story still could have player out the way it did.

Why is Luke "never coming back" for Rey? Why assassinate the character of Star Wars' favorite Jedi?

For Luke to abandon his own daughter would require a heck of a lot of skilled writing to justify.

I saw Maz's speech as yet another vaguely dharmic religionbabble in the series. So other possibilities include:

1. Rey is the new chosen one of prophesy.
2. Rey is the karmic rebirth of Anakin (or perhaps Padme).

Either way, I see little point in stanning for a plot reveal that hasn't happened yet.

Anakin being reborn stranded in the desert would, in fact, be very karmic. If the writers must make Rey a Skywalker, I'm holding out for the connection to be through Shmi.

It couldn't be because his wife might have "died" while pregnant but ended up living and far away from danger for whatever reason, huh?

I LOVE how people automatically harp on Luke when and ignore the MOM in all of this.

Because:

1. We can't speculate on the motives of characters who have not been introduced and may not even exist. And...

2. Luke's entire story arc involved healing the broken father/son relationship. So for him to repeat the same mistake would be highly OOC.

Granted, throwing six movies of relationship development into the trashcan likely wouldn't be the worst dramatic sin Disney does with the franchise, but still...
