You know what I miss too? Those websites that had literally all information you wanted about a fandom/actor/movie/series. You had pages with episode summaries, lists with random facts about an actor or character, pictures, pictures, pictures, links to videos, magazine scans, news, etc. All in one place created by a like minded fan. Not all over the place like it is these days on social media.

Basically when you got into something new or just wanted to know more about the thing you liked, you could go to this website and learn all about it. It was so easy, and so sweet too because you knew the creator was doing it for themselves/others and not for likes/reblogs. And even if they were known on certain forums, you could still just go to this website without having to associate, follow or get them to friend you.

So much this. I miss well curated fandom spaces. And am hogging the remnants that still exist.

Fandom specific wikis tend to have tons of information.

True! But they don't have that same aesthetic or feeling somehow. The websites I remember were mainly fond to me because they tended to post every single thing they could find about something. Every tiny magazine cutout, every promotional image, etc. Of course I'm talking about a time before twitter and facebook were around even, so it was quite hard to come about information on fandom things back then! One click and I had it, now you have to search sites like tumblr, not sure if you'll even find it, and having to filter through lots of irrelevant things.

It's a pure nostalgia thing though.

You mean like Wikipedia does now, except harder to find?

I'm not sure you've ever seen the kind of website I talk about. What wikipedia does is give you bite sized, to the point information about a topic, anything trivial is deleted.

Wikipedia is like an article, these websites were like monster sized books compared to that.

Not to mention wikipedia also doesn't let you post anything copyright protected like even a simple picture.

No. Those websites weren't held to academical standards, weren't ravaged by edit wars, weren't expected to keep an objective and neutral language, didn't have to follow a uniform design pattern.

Browse around these sites for some idea about what it was like. Wikipedia will amass more, and probably more accurate/less subjective information. But it'll never replicate the sheer devotion of the individuals behind these websites.

I loved those sites, too. And also sites where the creator would just compile every link they could find related to the piece of media so you could find all the other fan sites, and add explanatory comments like "Lots of photos!" or "Mostly fanfiction."

Yes! I was looking for pictures the other day and it's all Pinterest, official stock, Tumblr, random and spread out. I miss fansites and their galleries with carefully curated content for a show/actor.
