(Anonymous) 2017-11-12 02:54 am (UTC)(link)Yes, warn. As in, trigger warnings. And even a kiss between same-sex individuals was an immediate "M" rating.
I'm so glad we've left those dark days behind.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-11 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)I mean, granted, I think the primary mechanic for killing off fanshrines was the death of the free website host. Geocities, angelfire, etc. Blogs were the first easy replacement but as time has gone on and social media took over, blogs became harder and harder to format to look like a shrine page (and function like one). Or, at least, it's harder to find people putting the effort into making the pretty coding and then sharing it in an easy-to-find place.
but, hey, it's free to make journals and comms here on DW, so even if they're not as easy to customize without some help, maybe that's one way to do it? I'll do it if you do it, anon!

Basically when you got into something new or just wanted to know more about the thing you liked, you could go to this website and learn all about it. It was so easy, and so sweet too because you knew the creator was doing it for themselves/others and not for likes/reblogs. And even if they were known on certain forums, you could still just go to this website without having to associate, follow or get them to friend you.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-12 03:12 am (UTC)(link)I remember people using stuff like angelfire, geocities, and bravenet to make their little fansites. I also did it... though mine always looked like shit because I was 13 and very cringey... but it was a lot of fun. I learned a lot about html coding and making themes from those days.
