Colleen is wrong, obviously, but she's coming at it from a different place IMO. It doesn't have to be a question of privilege.

While "rich privilege" seems like the wrong term, I think "financial privilege" would be entirely appropriate.

I haven't seen the show, but what I'm getting from the secret is: Darryl has serious financial responsibilities, and next to no money. He's not in a position where he can reasonably choose to prioritize some subjective morals over a practical way of making money. He either makes the money, or he and the people he loves will be destitute. Colleen, meanwhile, may not be rich, but she obviously has no concept of what it's like to truly need money you don't have, or she wouldn't say something so stupidly judgmental.

If I've got the situation wrong, my apologies. I'm just going off of what I'm parsing from the secret and these comments.

Eh, I think they immediately complicated it by having Colleen be actually recruiting for the Hand (who she thought were good guys). She didn't want him throwing away his chance by fighting for money in dumb street fights when she was going to (and did!) get him a scholarship with enough to support his family if he just hung on a little longer. She knew he was in a bad position and she knew how to get him out of it, but not if he got himself badly injured or killed fighting for cash.

Not that there's much to defend in this show, but I think you're taking Colleen's comments out of context - she's more like a teacher telling a kid not to drop out of school because things will get better.
