What did you come out of it shipping? What did you think of the new characters? Did the humor work for you?
Re: Thor:Ragnarok
(Anonymous) 2017-11-16 04:43 am (UTC)(link)Oh yes, and Hela was delicious, such great delivery of her lines, and Skurge (who I thought was "Scourge" until I saw it written) also did a lot with a smaller part. Jeff Goldblum also great.
Like I said, I liked everybody. Even the rock monster.
Re: Thor:Ragnarok
You say that like the rock monster wasn't the best goddamn part of the whole movie. I loved that guy.
Re: Thor:Ragnarok
Thorki is still my #1 all-time OTP. I was really glad they got some good moments together although I'm sharing my disappointment with the rest of the fandom that they didn't get their hug.
Overall, I didn't like it, but based on the trailers I hadn't expected to. I was at least hoping to find it very funny, but it mostly wasn't to me? It all came across very mean-spirited to me. Thor's life gets ripped apart yet again and then we spend the whole movie making jokes at his expense? Haha, isn't it funny his father's dead and he's a slave and his people are being massacred, what a laugh. idk people give TDW a lot of shit for how it goes from sad scenes to stupid jokes, but at least it had the sad scenes.
I liked most of the new characters, though I honestly thought the actor who played Valkyrie was really bad. She was super boring and flat. I know they were trying to go for the tough badass with a heart of gold but her friendship with the Hulk didn't feel genuine at all and I never really bought that she was some awesome warrior.
Re: Thor:Ragnarok
(Anonymous) 2017-11-16 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)How was Loki possibly able to take over the Earth in Avengers if Earth's sorcerers should have been able to easily kick his ass? All his lies and schemes fell flat. I think they're doing the thing where they make him suck really hard as a villain so they can turn him into a hero, and I hate that particular 'redemption arc.'
Warriors Three getting killed with no fanfare? Awful.
Women existing only as shallow plot devices or eyecandy? Awful. Not even a single mention of Sif? When Dead!Odin was giving advice he couldn't have had Freya at his side and maybe giving advice too?
I was very insulted by the 'Mjolnir wasn't really magic, it was a device to help you channel your innate magic. The real magic was inside you all along!' Since that pretty much fucks over all the comic-related 'anyone can be Thor if they're worthy' including the current Jane Foster as Thor. So I kind of can't help but feel it was a 'don't worry guys, no vagina will ever be Thor, lol! There's one and only and he's a dude.'
A lot of the movie I felt like someone at Marvel loves writing Tony Stark. That's why Tony is Tony, and Peter Quill is Tony, and Doctor Strange is Tony, and now Thor is Tony. I mean I love getting to see Thor show off how clever he is, but he's not... flashy smug genius. He's quietly brilliant. So a lot of his snarky smug Tony-scenes bugged me.
I hated Thor's haircut and I was willing to have Loki in blue if it meant we got to see Jotun!Loki again, but NOPE.
CGI has come a long way, but long well lit stationary scenes of Hulk just standing around still looked very pasted-in and CGI.
The only good thing was it did kind of remind me of the headcanons I like for Thor/Loki and I have the urge to go back and read good fic.
Upcoming Movies
(Anonymous) 2017-11-16 02:10 am (UTC)(link)Re: Upcoming Movies
I want to see Jumanji, but I can't say that I'm particularly excited about it. I'm only in it for Karen and the Rock. Downsizing could be funny, but it also very much could be awful. So I'm not excited yet.
Re: Upcoming Movies
(Anonymous) 2017-11-16 02:14 am (UTC)(link)literally everything else about it looks terrible.

I sort of want to see The Greatest Showman. Looks like it could be good.
And I am SOOOOOOO excited about the Hey Arnold! movie.
Re: Upcoming Movies
(Anonymous) 2017-11-16 02:31 am (UTC)(link)"Looking forward to" because despite the release date being last week, they never mentioned it was only in select theaters.
Re: Upcoming Movies
Last Jedi, although I don't have any high expectations.
Cautious about Coco.

Justice League
(Anonymous) 2017-11-16 02:25 am (UTC)(link)Also, I can't wait to see the CGI because I've heard its awful. ESPECIALLY the CGI they used to hide Henry Cavill's mustache.
Re: Justice League
(Anonymous) 2017-11-16 02:28 am (UTC)(link)That was DC's initial mistake.
