I'll extend that into inability to read both cats and dogs (and other animals) - or rather, reading their actions (and "facial expressions") from a human perspective. It's a little annoying when you get the "oh my dog just broke something and now looks so guilty!" or whatever. Really frustrating when it's shoving negative characteristics on the animal. Your cat is not a manipulative and vengeful bitch who wants to kill you. If your cat keeps biting you, read the situation better. Are you petting it after it tries to signal to you that it doesn't want any more? Are you raising your voice (even jokingly, because Cleo and Fido can't tell you're joking when you start yelling and acting threateningly) or advancing on them in a way that looks aggressive? etc.

I agree 100%. That was part of the problem with Joanna's previous owners. She wanted to sit on laps, and they read that as her trying to be annoying and not listening to them on purpose when all she was doing was telling them what she needed. You can't make an indoor cat an outdoor cat. It just doesn't work. She already seems so much happier.
