(Anonymous) 2008-06-26 05:35 am (UTC)(link)Uh. Have you been to deviantArt? Or seen the sketchbooks of at least 80% of teen artists? Or the huge sections in the book stores loaded with manga...? Anime's pretty commonplace nowadays. It was "different" a decade or two ago. Now it's practically the default setting for artists just starting out.
And in most cases, more beautiful.
Actually, I'd argue that while it can be done beautifully, a lot of the time it's pretty poorly executed, even by so-called professionals. It doesn't matter what style is employed, it is the skill and talent behind the art that makes it succeed or fail. There's lots of good anime and a lot of crap anime, just like in any other area.

I never said there wasnt shitty anime art...but like actual OBVIOUS pros(not those that proclaim it but actually arent) execute it beautifully and I'd take their art over realistic art any day.

And if that's what you like, there's nothing wrong with that. However, I don't think the OP is whining. Anime artists, even mediocre ones, are ludicrously overexposed and popular on deviantArt. A lot of amazing pros have lower pageviews, because they don't cater to that particular audience. So I would imagine that the OP is probably annoyed about not getting many pageviews on work they clearly cared about, and only started getting more pageviews now that they started doing anime. A lot of non-anime or non-fanart artists complain about this, and I've noticed a lot of artists doing art they wouldn't normally do just to gain pageviews, which always makes me a bit sad. Do what you love, whether it's popular or not. If it's anime, great, go for it; if it's not, that's great, too. But don't waste time catering to what other people want one way or the other if it's not what you want. Pageviews don't mean squat in the grand scheme of things.
