Regarding the "cryptid" secret:

It doesn't exactly help the Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Yeti case that the most famous footage of all (which is featured in the photograph the secret-maker used) was admitted to be a hoax. (The same goes for the Loch Ness Monster.)

It's not cheap reality shows that cause cryptozoology to not be taken seriously.

It's the idiots who actually believe the "evidence", which has always been faked. Nobody still believes in Piltdown Man or the Cardiff Giant (also infamous hoaxes), but they insist on clinging to other things that are known not to exist.

There's a thread on page 1 to talk about the secret - it might be easier to find discussion there...

Personally I find the eyewitness accounts and historical sightings more compelling than a picture or two. Pictures are sensational, and sometimes faked. Accounts tend to have nuances and layers and a lot more to offer, IMO. The focus on technology to solve things falls short in cryptozoology. Not all accounts can be easily dismissed or explained, and often have hesitant or reluctant and trustworthy witnesses. A preponderance of voices means something to pay attention to.
