It's not really a legend but when I was little I read an Edgar Allan Poe short story where the main character is a pilot and was one of the first to fly high enough to breach the clouds, and basically all pilots who have done the same thing we're traumatized by what they saw cause they saw sky-dragons and lightning-breathing monsters up there and all these fantastical aerial creatures. Cause by then the sky was as unexplored as the deep seas are now.

I mean even as a kid I know sky monsters are impossible, but I really wanted them to be true for a long time.
