Inspired by #1 - what are your favorite weird conspiratorial paranormal urban legend type things? Is Bigfoot the King Of All Cryptids?

The Loch Ness Monster. I was stupidly obsessed with Nessie when I was a kid. I had so many books on her.

The chupacabra and the Yeti. I'm weirdly fascinated by those two.

There's a creepy building with an octopus on its roof that you can't access directly from any sides in my town.

People say it's a satanic church. It's a local urban legend.

I want to believe.

It's not really a legend but when I was little I read an Edgar Allan Poe short story where the main character is a pilot and was one of the first to fly high enough to breach the clouds, and basically all pilots who have done the same thing we're traumatized by what they saw cause they saw sky-dragons and lightning-breathing monsters up there and all these fantastical aerial creatures. Cause by then the sky was as unexplored as the deep seas are now.

I mean even as a kid I know sky monsters are impossible, but I really wanted them to be true for a long time.

Mothman is cool! But I'll always have a soft spot for lake monsters, no matter how improbable they are.

I'm really fond of Chuchunya, Almas, Yeti... All the bigfoot type things of Asia. Especially Almas. I think they're just so charming compared to bigfoot, because it's the same idea of big humanoid ape-thing except Almases live in little tribes and wear furry clothes and wander around, just like the people who live in those regions do.

Chupacabras, tbh, and it's great that I work with people who actually believe in them and have a ton of stories about them too!

There's a very old UFO urban legend that goes around about a woman being pulled out of a tall building in New York (the UN building I think?) by aliens and a lot of people seeing it. I read about it in high school and really wondered if it could be true and there was some coverup. A couple of years ago I saw it debunked, which is pretty easy to do, but I had stopped believing it long before that. I kind of miss that sense of wonder I had about things like that.

Nessie is fun. I know it's just a lot of driftwood and fish and mass hysteria/imagination, but the idea of a secret dinosaur in a lake is cool. I first learned about it watching Unsolved Mysteries as a kid, so maybe Robert Stack hyped me up more than I would be otherwise.

This thingy is a local legend. Not a cryptid but a creepy thing nonetheless: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Spooklight

I've seen it, technically, but it just looked like a car light in the distance to me. Most likely is gas from an underground cavern, as this was a mining community back in the day. Old tunnels everywhere.

Honestly, I still believe Chupacabra exists. I've had the idea in my head since I was like 12? And I just can't seem to get rid of the wonder and hope of someone one day capturing a genuine one. ^^;;;;;

My son, btw, is OBSESSED with Bigfoot/Yeti. Like, he asks if there's any that might live near us and wants to go camping one day in hopes of spotting one. I mean, he's 6, but it's fun to see that level of fascination with the unknown. =)
