I get like this about porn art, I always imagine some straining illustrator carefully outlining every pube on their tablet

I've thought of this too, but at least most of them work alone.

But then you have doujin circles who work together making explicit manga, so yeah, I wonder if there's awkwardness. I can't even show some explicit fics I've written to friends.

I guess you haven't discovered the new Buzzfeed Thirst Aid podcast where ladies talk about fanfic, invite fanfic, erotic poetry, and objectify men (actors) shamelessly. I fell in love with their episode of The Great British Bae Off. SO FUN but I can imagine some folks will have a lot of second hand embarrassment listening to laughing ladies discussing sexy time.

Google 'Thirst Aid Kit by Buzzfeed' to find them.

I can tell you that proofreading someone else's porn, line by line, is, it's weird.

And then it gets weird because it's not weird, get me?

I think it's probably one of those things that seems really weird until you've done it a couple of times, and then it just gets normal really fast. Especially if the people who do that kind of voice work do mostly that kind of voice work. For them I'm sure it's just another day at the recording studio.

I'm just going to leave this here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Manga/KoeDeOshigoto It's a comedy manga about voice acting in H-games.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-25 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That is *cough* that is a thing.

Man, I'd love to see a behind the scenes take for this! I'm sure the actors are all professional, but I always wonder if they ever end up breaking character or questioning why their character is getting railed by a dude and a lion.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-25 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
at the same time?

(Anonymous) 2017-11-25 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I know seiyuus use hard candy to simulate making out noises, I wonder if they ever almost choked or something. The behind the scenes sounds hilarious imo

(Anonymous) 2017-11-25 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god, how do they do it?? I'm cringing just thinking about it.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-26 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I would be unable to not burst into giggles.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-26 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I used to know someone who was in Legend of the Overfiend and she said that they're usually recording in different rooms and the biggest problem is not to start laughing.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-26 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
I have some knowledge of professional voice acting, and yes they usually record in the studio alone, with a director communicating with them.

Those sound files are then edited together by the sound designers and made to sound more realistic and to flow naturally.

The actors also oftentimes comment about stuff and joke about the lines. Most productions have plenty of outtakes and bloopers that are never released. Sound designers will also remove those and splice together the best takes.

The OP seems to be talking about J-Seiyuu though, and from Free Talk sessions in drama CDs, some of them seem to be recorded together, seiyuus would talk about trying not to crack up looking at the other's face, and things like that.

Maybe some, especially bigger productions can afford to record them all separately though.

As far as I know Japan always record everything together. It's cute when there are like ten actors but only two mics and actors have to step down after voicing their lines to let the next guy do their job.
