I’m just going to say that I think he had more than one good performance, because I don’t know how to respond to the rest of it.

Heh, I thought OP was thinking of Ennis Del Mar, but then, from comments below, realized shes probably of his Joker.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-02 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
*she's probably thinking

Not OP

(Anonymous) 2017-12-02 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I think he had several good performances, which does make for an okay career. But the hype about his Joker is pretty silly.

Every time I see a picture of Heath Ledger these days I just think god he looks so fucking young. He used to be older than me, for fucks sake! Actually this is a problem my friend has, whose husband died several years ago. She looks at his photos and sees that she is aging without him. It just makes me sad.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-03 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
This made me so sad. E hugs to you and your friend. X

(Anonymous) 2017-12-02 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I agree. I'm rolling my eyes so hard every time someone mentions his Joker as if he never did anything else in his life. His death was sad but no reason to create some kind of cult around him.

He was easily as good as James Dean though. Dean wasn't perfect. And given that I'm not completely sure what the one iconic role was, gotta disagree with you there.

And I think the cult around James Dean is just as stupid.

I'm assuming the iconic role was the Joker.

I just feel so bad for his kid.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-02 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Off the top of my head, I really liked him in a Knight’s Tale and 10 things I hate about you.

The critics raved about Brokeback Mountain where I thought he was ok but it was a solid performance.

My favorite is the Imaginarium if Dr. Parnasus which does have an element of ‘what if’ but he was solid in the role and showed what might been.

The thing about Heath Ledger is that he was in a bunch of silly movies that he somehow turned into masterpieces solely with his acting and star quality. I mean ffs, when you're watching Casanova and thinking "this is pretty good"... that can only be Heath Ledger. Whatever it is, he had it.

I never saw his Joker.

+1

I've seen a lot of Heath's movies just for his acting ability. I just can't see the popular opinion of "he was whatever". Heath was a phenomenal actor. You don't watch him and think, "yeah, he's acting rn lol" like one might with Leonardo DiCaprio.

Idk, the people who I have come across (online only, I haven't met anyone irl who thought he was 'just okay' or even bad, and I work in the entertainment industry) have strong opinions on his acting seem to either want to be edgy or don't actually know what they find great in acting to begin with.

Not gonna lie I thought that was River Phoenix (though I forget what he looked like).

I've seen him in four movies and liked him in all of them.

Ned Kelly, A Knight's Tale, The Patriot, and 10 Things I Hate About You. I would call him a good actor.

I would call James Dean a really good actor because I'm sucked into his performance so much that it's kind of uncomfortable - the characters he played weren't the happiest.

Marilyn Monroe was a good actor, though she often played to a type.

While we're talking about good actors who died young, I think River Phoenix, Brad Renfro, and Brittany Murphy all belong on that list.

Aww, you just reminded me that Brad Renfro is dead.

A Knight's Tale is really good, though. I've never seen whichever Batman movie he was in.
