Do you enjoy conspiracy theories?

(Anonymous) 2017-12-09 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
If so, what are your favorites?

I love conspiracy theories. they're so deeply weird and beautifully wrong. some that i like are:

- bigfoots are aliens
- all of human history before ~1100 is fabricated
- Project Blue Beam
- tupac is alive in cuba
- basically all NWO/Illuminati stuff in general

*Looks up Project Blue Beam* *regrets it five seconds later*

That airplane vapor trails are actually government mind control drugs (and spraying vinegar will render them useless). That the Denver, Colorado, airport is one big Illuminati symbol and that there's a massive underground area underneath the airport. The Illuminati in general. That Bigfoot is real. That a UFO crashed in New And the government is covering up (Area 51). That President Kennedy was assassinated by Freemasons, Mormons, Jews, the Mafia, right wing government agents, Communists, etc. and not a single disturbed individual.

That should say a UFO crashed in New Mexico there.

Haha, I was in the Denver airport not long ago and I kept telling my dad, who was traveling with me, that it was haunted and satanic and stuff just to mess with him (I didn't know it was supposed to be involved with the Illuminati, I'd always just heard haunted/super weird/possibly demonic). I will admit that the subway thing was a bit weird because they have these gargoyle-looking things on one wall and they're just creepy looking, but in general it seemed like a pretty regular airport.

There's the nicest jewelry shop there, Spirit of the Red Horse. FABULOUS Native American jewelry.

Well, in all fairness Denver airport actually DOES have a huge underground area beneath it afaik. And to add fuel to the conspiracy fire, the airport used to be decorated with a bunch of amazingly disturbing murals. I think they got rid of them??? but you can see them online. I only got to see one of them the last time I went through years ago, and it was fucking creepy.

I can't think of any specific ones, but I'm really into true crime/unsolved mysteries/missing people sort of stuff, and there's all sorts of insane conspiracy theories involved in that kind of thing.

Like, some dude will go missing, and he has a picture posted on social media that has a painting of an elephant in the background, and someone on Websleuths or Reddit will decide that OBVIOUSLY this means that he was involved in selling the body parts of an endangered species of elephant on the black market, and he was kidnapped and murdered by a high ranking elephant cartel member. And he was from Boring Suburb, and it has a large population of immigrants from The Only Country Where That Species Of Elephant Still Exists, and that's just HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS and clearly the cops in that area are in cahoots with the elephant cartel and so they're helping to cover up his death. Except for Detective Joe, who had an affair with Elephant Cartel Leader's girlfriend, and so there's tension between them, and Detective Joe used a specific word in a televised press conference, and EVERYONE KNOWS that that totally ordinary, common word is used in the illegal endagered elephant part trade to mean "decapitate and eat someone" and so Detective Joe is trying to secretly signal for help because he's afraid that that's going to happen to him.

People just come up with the most bizarre stories with all these outlandish details that have literally ZERO evidence or basis in reality, and then other people latch onto the "theory" and it spirals out into a giant ball of WTFery.

...when the guy had a history of depression and the most likely explanation is he went somewhere out of the way to commit suicide.

SA

And I totally didn't answer your question. Sometimes they can be entertaining when they're just weird, harmless stuff.

Other times, when they involve the missing/murdered person being involved in some sort of illegal activity (when there's no evidence they actually were) or there's the implication that they somehow were responsible for what happened to them, and there's always the chance that the person's loved ones might see that bullshit...that just pisses me off.

A lot of them make both sad and afraid

(Anonymous) 2017-12-09 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Because there are people out there who legitimately believe.

But there are some fascinating mental gymnastics that get done for some of them - the Flat Earth people who think Mars is round because it's been observed to be (How do you even begin to justify that?), Katy Perry is Jon-Benet Ramsey (Um, yeah.), contrails are chemicals (Really can't conceive that they could be water, like, say, I don't know, clouds?), and LED or CF light bulbs are the government's way to make people more docile (Yeah, that's how I'd describe people lately, docile.).

In the 2016 US Presidential election, Trump, Jill Stein, and Clinton may have all been tied to one Russian oligarch or another. (Eh, weak.)

Ohio possibly hasn't had a legitimate election in fifteen years, because they use computers to make up the results. (Well, who can tell?)

A small handful of giant conglomerates have taken over most industry and media in the world's largest economy and tell people that GMO's are good for them. (This is true.)

The Republican Party deliberately takes unpopular and anti-social positions to extract money from wealthy sickos who are trying to defraud the public and stay out of prison. (Looks like!)

tell people that GMO's are good for them.

i mean, yes, but that doesn't mean that GMOs are actually bad

The Republican Party deliberately takes unpopular and anti-social positions to extract money from wealthy sickos who are trying to defraud the public and stay out of prison

I don't know how you can explain American politics without believing that.

GMOs are at worst harmless, and many are incredibly beneficial. Like, say, the ones used to synthesize human insulin so diabetics don't have to rely on pig insulin. Try reading an actual scientific journal instead of the National Enquirer.
