I read this (I found offensive) article stating that the only reason Kevin Spacey was taken seriously was because of the 'gay' factor. This didn't take into account the rumours that have been around Spacey for years about being creepy and sexually harassing men and that nothing was done (A couple of friends of mine were in the theatre community in London around five years ago and even then there were rumours that if you were a young man, keep clear of handsy Spacey.)

I agree with a lot of the OPs here that it took so long for Netflix to fire Masterson because of his Scientology link. Glad they finally did though!

There's also the matter of Bryan Spacey. Strong rumours of sexual assault of teenage boys. Still (at this point) weasling his way out of any blame, by using his lawyers to countersue and threaten anyone making a complaint. He's been fired from his recent Freddy Mercury film directing gig for 'clashing' on set. Again, like Spacey, these rumours have persisted for years and nothing still has been done about them.

I believe that the power that the abuser holds and the circumstances surrounding the abuse is the factor in what happens to them, over the gender of their victims.

Yes - Rapp may not be as big a star as Spacey, but he has some name recognition. While I don't want to underestimate the courage it required for him to come forward, and it's good for everyone's sake that he had a bit more power and was able to use it, he was more likely to be believed and listened to than a struggling actor or a production assistant no-one has heard of.

News editors buried stories about Spacey's sexuality and habitual sexual harassment for over a decade because:

1. "Outing is wrong."
2. Spacey was represented by a high-power agency that threatened to blacklist publications reporting on the issue.
