Please don't use the term "monosexual" for gay people. It's homophobic and ignorant to create a commonality between straight and gay people that's based entirely on the thing that homophobic straight people hate in the first place. There is no shared experience between gay people and straight people based on only being attracted to one gender, because the experience of being attracted only to one's own gender is different in every way from that of being attracted only to the "opposite" gender.

If you would consider it inappropriate to lump bisexual people in with straight people under a term such as "oppososexual" or whatever, meaning "attracted to the opposite gender", because the experience thereof is completely different between bisexual people and straight people... then consider that you are doing the same thing to gay people when you use "monosexual". It's incorrect and it's homophobic.

Yeah, cry moar. Bi person here. Will probably use "monosexual" just because you said not to.

Wow, your homophobia is so edgy and progressive.

So...on your planet, only straight people can be described by a word that means exactly "attracted to only one sex"? Because...describing people who are only attracted to one sex, while specifying that that sex is their own, with a term which means specifically "attracted to only one sex," and qualifying that term with the specification that that sex is their own, is...homophobic? Because on your planet, describing someone as being attracted exclusively to their own sex, in terminology that means exactly that and no more, somehow translates to "Gay people are literally exactly the same as straight people and also invalid?" Boy, I'd hate to study linguistics on that planet.

It's impressive that you've managed to write this post while seemingly not knowing how to read. Well done.

Yeah, dog, it fucking is, because you have the word "gay" to describe ~monosexual~ gay people and yet you're still insistent on slamming in another term that just happens to imply that straight and gay people form a cogent social category based on both being attracted to only one gender.

And I'm going to leave now because I can tell already that you don't give a shit about whether you're being homophobic or not and you're just going to dig in further about how lesbians are The Worst People Ever and gay people should just shut the fuck up.

/hugs

idk if you'll read this because you just said you're leaving but just in case you do come back, just want you to know that I understand what you're saying and i support it and thanks.

I mean, you're free to invent imaginary meanings for what I said if you want to. No one's stopping you from doing so, or from flouncing because you're mad about the imaginary meanings you choose to impose on what I said. I don't recall saying that lesbians are evil or that gay people "should just shut up," but hey, the imagination is a wonderful thing. You are, however, not really allowed to invalidate the actual, lived issues of erasure or phobia that actual real people have experienced on the basis that you prefer to imagine that calling out those issues is the real phobia.

Nobody's telling you that the issues aren't real or that it's not real biphobia. They're just telling you not to use homophobic terminology while talking about it. I'm not sure why you're having such a hard time understanding this. The only person trying to invalidate the actual, lived issues of erasure or phobia here is you.

No, you're just pulling the "racist uncle" bullshit. You know, the "well I'm sure there's some nice black folks out there, but in my experience there's sure a whole lot of 'em bein' thugs." Like, you're absolutely ascribing a terrible, vilifying trait to lesbians because some girls were assholes to you.

It wouldn't be very nice of me, for instance, to say that in my experience, bi girls are cheating dramahounds, because while that is actually true for me as a lesbian (so don't talk shit about "invalidation" here), it was just those particular girls. Their being bi is an aside. But I could certainly use it the way you're using your ~lived experience~ and perpetuate further stereotypes against bisexuals. I won't, because I'm not an asshole, but I could.

So...on your planet[...]

Seconding this whole comment, and basically everything you're saying in this thread. Sorry you're having to deal with people's unwarranted hostility. :(

I saw almost an IDENTICAL rant about the term allosexual in the past and it was just as ridiculous then. Suck it up, buttercup. My ace ass is going to "keep lumping (whoever) in" with ~THE CISHETS~ when context calls for it and I see no reason why bisexual people shouldn't do the same.

Also, people DO ACTUALLY fucking use the term "opposite-gender attracted" all the time? I was not aware this excluded bisexual people, though given how rampant bi erasure is I guess I wouldn't be surprised.
