I honestly didn't find Elrond particularly memorable in either the books or the movies, but I'll never understand why they cast what's-his-name. He's so creepy looking and unattractive. He's a great actor and iconic in other roles - a perfect Agent Smith, but an ethereally-beautiful elf? Nawwww.

I don't get it, either. Too obviously middle-aged looking, for someone who is supposed to appear ageless.

Really? I found him very attractive (both as Elrond and Smith). Huh.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
I agree anon. He's even hotter to me in The Hobbit (even though he's older and I'm not a huge fan of those movies). Goddamn.

Seriously? To each their own, but that is legitimately surprising to me. I would've called him objectively creepy looking, and have no idea what physical traits of his would be considered attractive.

I like Hugo Weaving but he always seemed like an odd choice as Elrond. Now if the rumors were true and we could've had David Bowie... THAT would've been amazing.

HA as I was reading the comments above ( before I got to your comment) I was just thinking, "Bowie would been lovely."

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
It could've been perfect casting. He's got the looks for it, the voice and presence...

I console myself with the thought that he refused on the basis it was a downgrade, from Goblin King to mere Lord Half-elven....
(also, long flowing robes go against his idiom).

But gee shucks yeah there were not enough movies made to play off Bowie's fascinating oddness-tempered-by-mortal-aging.

Thank you for contributing.

I loved Elrond in movies but that might be due to me not reading the books. I'm a movies fan through and through. They changed Thrunduil's character much more from what I've heard. Elrond building a city and then managing it, as well as being a healer which takes a lot of hard work - I can see it in the movie Elrond.

This is the one thing that is the absolute worst part of the movie for me. Elrond and all the choices involved in him in the movie are terrible. HW doesn't look like Elrond at all. They completely butchered the character, who is my favorite character of all time in anything ever.

I loathe Elrond in the movies. I especially loathe how the 'receding hairline' thing ended up in so many fics after the movies came out. Same with his hatred of men. It was all such bullshit.
