Draw it, write it, tag it properly, ignore the haters. Turn off anon messaging. Delete any hate without posting it. What are they going to do to you?

(Anonymous) 2017-12-17 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I mean take some safety precautions. No "I am a 34 cis female who lives at 123 Lane and my greatest fears are... and here's a bunch of selfies of me outside my work place" blog headers, but you should do it.

I've kind of been there, I was sticking to making 'safe' content, and after a while it started getting really burnt out and angry about it to the point I couldn't even enjoy it anymore. So I made a bunch of 'problematic shit' and when I didn't respond to the comments calling me a sick fuck they stopped coming and people still liked my non-problematic content too.

If you share your address and full name on a place like Tumblr, you are a fool. Do they not give kids the internet stranger danger talk anymore? I guess Facebook has gotten rid of that fear.

They don't! As an Internet Old, it's really weird - we went through this period of sharing pretty openly because there just weren't that many people online and we were mostly using university addresses, to NEVER TELL ANYONE ANYTHING YOU WILL DIE, to Facebook level oversharing.

I am, as another Internet Old, irritated by this too. I got online in my early 20s, around 1999, and the "Keep your identity secret!" mindset was still firmly around at that time. It's a major reason why I use the name "Mimi Sardinia", because it's not my RL name. I also don't have my RL name on my Facebook account.

Thank you!
The thing is I'm on twitter and I made it into this little tight circle of mutuals with similar tastes and one main ship, and I dearly love everyone and enjoy it a lot, but I'm starting to 'suffocate' in it when it comes to creative content, because every time I come up with silly or funny or interesting idea for a random ship art I remember that oh mutual A hates this ship, mutuals B and C block everyone who posts this ship, and it's... yeah.
You gave me an excellent idea though, I could easily make a socket account on tumblr and post everything there. Few of my twitter mutuals have tumblr, but they probably blocked the tags they hate long ago. I hope.

Yeah, sock it and enjoy! It really sucks to feel like you're walking on fandom eggshells.

And rational people are entirely capable of going "I don't like this thing, you do like this thing. Lets just agree that I don't spew negativity at you and you don't spew positivity at me." When it comes to fictional fandom junk.

Now that tumblr lets your filter tags, your followers shouldn't even be able to see the things they hate if tagged properly. But even if they do, just turn off anon and unfollow antis.

I created a new tumblr and have been creating art and reblogging for ships considered problematic (Sheith, Otayuri, etc) and keeping up with my own blacklists and tag filtering and honestly, I'm having so much fun on tumblr how. It' been pretty great. :3

Nnooooo IT'S NOT PEDO IF THEY'RE ADULTS STAPPPP. T^T What is wrong with dumblr ship haters??

Look, anon, draw what you want to draw - I don't care for Junkrat/Mei, but I'm not going to tell you to not enjoy/ship it (and hell, I'd still follow you so wth). If that's what makes ya happy, then go on! AND FFS D.VA IS AN ADULT SO IT'S NOT PEDO - THE SAME WITH McCREE---ship them with whomever you want, except Efi CUZ THAT'S PEDO. *facepalm* Ship hating is fcking dumb. Also, we don't know Mercy's sexuality - I personally think she's bi - so DO YOU ANON. DO YOU. =D

What they said, anon. ^^^
Tune 'em out, draw what you want, enjoy yourself!
That's the whole point of fandom. Screw the haters.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-18 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Like others have said, do what you want to do, OP. Turn off anon, block shitty people, and make sure that everything is tagged appropriately. I've been writing for a 'problematic ship' and ended up making a sockpuppet account for all of the stuff I've posted, but I haven't gotten any hate as of yet. At least, not any that I've seen.

But yeah, Overwatch fandom has been pretty bad. The fandom is always ready to jump on someone at any moment's notice for pretty much anything.

Just fucking go for it!!

Hell, I ship McCree/Mei. And purely for the looks.

And for the record, I HATE McHanzo, PharMercy, Zarya/Mei, and R76.

OP

(Anonymous) 2017-12-18 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
McCree/Mei is cute!!! (wow I should draw it)
I have a lot of random crack ships I would love to make art for. (A lot of them are with Junkrat and Zenyatta, like Junkrat/McCree is funny, Zenyatta/Hanzo is amusing! Don't get me started about Zenyatta/McCree, boy.) It's just so intimidating when it seems that you made friends in fandom but they don't know you for your multishipping and crackshipping and expect only 1 ship from you... :(
I don't HATE-hate the popular ships, but most of them look boring to me, R76 and PharMercy most of all. The only semi-popular ship I like is genyatta and it's not half as popular as the ones you listed haha

MEH on this whole fandom, honestly.

Tracer is the only character who has a canon sexuality. (Well, Genji has shown interest in girls so he's either straight or bi) There's 0% evidence that Mercy is LGBT in any way. And given that Michael Chu openly ships Gency on his twitter, she'll probably be either straight or bi.

I'm queer, but fans like this who claim a character who there's no proof is LGBT is and bully people about it make me so embarrassed. Stop vomiting your headcanons all over and let people be!
