I just wanna know why people care so much when others are into problematic characters, ships, actors, kinks, etc.

Why would anyone want to be that person.

Why.

Virtue points. "Look at them! I'm better than all those people, and here's why." What they don't seem to realize is that no one else is keeping score.

Re: petty fan venting

(Anonymous) 2017-12-19 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think that's part of it, but I'm confused as to why they view virtue as a path to popularity?

Do people really want to be around sanctimonious people?

Re: petty fan venting

(Anonymous) 2017-12-19 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
No. But so much of this happens online, so people can participate in the echo chamber without really spending time with the irritating people.

it depends a lot on what you mean by "care"

Because people getting up in and judging each other's business has been a thing that people have done since the beginning of time.

True, I guess it's just a world view I don't understand? I know you don't, either, because I never see you do it.

I am a ship and let ship (kink, whatever) person. Even for things I really hate (extreme underage stuff). If you tag it so I can blacklist and don't try to talk to me about it, we are good.

At least with actors, I just don't see why someone's talent would be enough of a reason to ignore or overlook violent, racist, or predatory behavior after you know it happened.

But most people value art over people so I just keep it moving and get less shocked as the years go by.

An exception;

If someone just gives money to make a movie or TV show and has no other involvement, I'm not going to fault anyone for watching it.

Makes sense.

I just don't watch sports at all enough to know who sucks off the top of my head.

To me, abusive stuff like that that happened in real life is a whole different story than stuff that's purely fictional. I don't get into discussions about it either because there isn't much point, but I get where it's important. Shipping fictional characters - I don't get why people judge that.

I will absolutely judge something like Reylo. I just won't talk to the person.

People like feeling superior, it's always happened and it'll keep on happening.

Not that I like it or think it's okay, and I sure as fuck wish that people would just ignore shit they don't like, but I can't control others actions so I'll just stick with blocking/ignoring the loudest complainers and staying in my own bubble.

Re: petty fan venting

(Anonymous) 2017-12-19 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I can't control others actions

Exactly! That's what it's all about to moralizers, isn't it? Control. It's not actually about morality.

Oh for sure, they want people to like what they like exactly how they like it and get mad when people don't.

I always wonder how those kinds of people deal with differing opinions in real life tbh.

But then I also don't care about them enough to imagine so whatever, they can keep driving themselves up walls in their own corners. Not my issue.

I don't care except in the general, vague sense that it would be nice if everyone was as moral as possible.

But, like, part of fandom discussion is talking about things, and if I'm talking about something, and I think it's problematic, I'm not just going to not say that. It's up to you whether or not you want to care about that, obviously.

Also, Silmarillion fandom, we can all interpret canon differently. That's okay. Really. Your interpretation isn't any more right than anyone else's, so stop dismissing other people's interpretations as AU.

I really don't know, nonny. idgi either.

There's plenty of ships I don't like and shit I think is kind of fucked up. But it doesn't piss me off or wig me out when someone else is way into Hydra Trash Party or something. And I mean I personally find it way weirder and creepier when adults are into shit like MLP or SU than when adults write darkfic. But I'm not gonna go flame some rando on tumblr about it.

I just figure, whatever, they're at a different point in life than I am, they're into different shit than me. ykinmkato I'm sure I like shit that other people think is gross, they like shit that I think is gross.

Re: petty fan venting

(Anonymous) 2017-12-19 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
For me, at least, it has to do with how they treat the subject? Like, if someone is into something really sketchy but acknowledges the skeeviness of it, then full speed ahead, have fun anddo what you want. I only get bothered when they try to justify skeevy stuff and ignore the inherent skeeviness of it, like if they write essays about how (insert abusive relationship here) is romantic and flawless twu wuv.

Ship what you want but own up to it, basically.

Re: petty fan venting

(Anonymous) 2017-12-19 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
I guess people do it to feel better than others, but I don't get it. Ship and let ship. Just tag your shit properly and we're golden.

i'll judge on my own time but keep it out of the way of the people that like messy shit, my issue is not something others need to adhere to.

however i find it funny that fans of problematic things act like innocent victims who never do any wrong when i have literally been spammed with explicit incest art because i asked someone, privately, if they could tag an incest ship so i could blacklist it, and they sent their followers after me because i was 'kink-shaming'.
