Oh wow I agree OP, they lack distinctions from each other.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-28 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
It looks like they are dressed for a wedding or something. makes sense they's look similar.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-28 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Dresses, maybe. But OP is clearly referring to their physical traits and not their clothing.

Wow. No. I'll try to give it the benefit of the doubt, though I'm pretty sure you can't top the Winona Rider version. But those do not look like the March sisters.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-28 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Eh. That could have been me at 12. I was my adult height and a c cup. I looked older than my friend's sister who was 15/16 at the time, and then my friend caught up to me before her sister did, so it's probably pretty normal even for siblings to have that experience? Idk.

I do think of Jo as less delicate looking than any of those girls, but it's been a long time since I read the book.

I don't mean this in a mean way, but you're an outlier, in that sense. Most 12-year-olds don't look even half this old-- and certainly not in that time period, without all the added food hormones and stuff that are speeding up girls' puberies these days.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-28 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, gotta agree with the previous anon. Your experience isn't typical. Most 12 year olds don't look like 16 year olds, particularly not in the mid to late 1800s. In the book, Amy is, unequivocally, a child and is never described as looking more physically mature than her age.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-28 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, same. I went from a slightly tall eleven-year-old to an adult-sized, adult-shaped 12-year-old which was a bit of a shock.

They never make them look their ages, which sucks. I have yet to be 100 percent happy with *any* Little Women production.
*sigh*

None of those girls are twelve. Or sixteen.

That's the nature of making an adaptation, but it seems clear they just aged the characters up. I guess that's all right.

I didn't know they were making a series! That's awesome. You're right about their appearance; it doesn't look right. Honestly, I don't mind as long as it's a faithful adaptation.

Well.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-28 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Kathryn Newton (Amy) is 20. [first from the left]
Willa Fitzgerald (Meg) got a BA in 2013 so is probably 25-26. [second from the left]
Maya Thurman-Hawke (Jo) is 19 and the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. [third from the left]
Annes Elwy (Beth) I have no information on. [last from the left]

But the March sisters don't stay 12 to 16, so maybe they chose the cast more based on them later.

http://www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/2017-12-27/meet-the-cast-of-little-women/ Annes Elwy is 25 and Willa Fitzgerald is 26

I agree with your last point - they presumably cast them so they would be appropriate throughout the entire story. I'm fine with that, considering 30-40 year-old actors regularly play high school kids on TV...

Not a huge Little Women fan to be perfectly honest but I can barely tell the two in the middle apart except by their hairstyle.

I'm still not over Jo being played by Winona Ryder in the 1994 film. It doesn't compute.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-28 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
If they're (L-R) Amy - Meg - Jo - Beth, then I disagree with you and think they look enough like their book versions to be recognizable.

If they're any other character assignments, then I'll join you in WTFing.

The mini series is out, aired this week.

It's okay OP you can still enjoy fandom even if you suck as a writer
