To each their own. I think he's pretty easily the most interesting character in the series right now. I was also interested in Poe's development. Finn didn't change much for me, and Rey... idk, the stuff that happens to her is interesting but her personality itself doesn't draw me much yet.

Rey lost a lot of appeal for me in TLJ because she was way too overpowered and that usually leads to a character being bland. I liked her in TFA but now I don't really care about her all that much anymore.

Yeah, that was my thought. Well, she was technically OP in the first one, too. But her personality was likeable enough. I'm not sure her personality was quite as likeable in this one though. She wasn't unlikable, or anything, just not as interesting to watch to me as Kylo.

I can overlook her being OP in TFA to a certain extent - especially the fight at the end can be chalked up to Kylo being seriously disadvantaged from taking a blaster shot to the gut etc.
In TLJ though, it was dialled up to eleven, but in a way that was entirely too contrived and it was a strain on the suspension of disbelief even in the context of space wizards and space magic.

And I think her personality did suffer a bit, even if it was mostly scenes that were played as a joke. Not enough to dislike her, but it also didn't help.

This is interesting, because my feelings are the total opposite, and I liked her a lot better in TLJ than I did in TFA. She came out of TLJ feeling more rounded to me, and I think her power is balanced out by Kylo (despite her escaping him, when she and he were fully engaged, they pushed each other back and ripped the light saber apart, indicating that neither one can truly best the other).

I actually don't mind her Force abilities that much because that is implied to be a matter of talent and willpower more than practice.
But her skills with the lightsaber are what bothers me. She never used a sword before, only a staff, yet she somehow knows all the right moves and lightsaber kata without ever being taught. During the fight against the guards, she actually seems more skillful than Kylo, even though he trained for at least a decade longer. And the way she just floats that whole ravine worth of huge rocks out of the way was very OP as well. A bit less would have been better, in my eyes.

The kata she performs can be performed (with some modifications) with staff as well, though, so I don't think that's too far-fetched. And given what we've seen of her, even in TFA alone, moving the rocks didn't feel all that impressive to me.

I also perceived she and Kylo as being about the same level during the fight against the guards. Even with that, I do think your point stands: he's ostensibly had more formal training, so he should outstrip her, rather than equal her.

I guess the question is what sort of training she's actually had. She had to have some, given her proficiency with the staff. Hopefully it'll be covered either in supplemental material or in the third film.

Training extensively for self-defense is training enough. Her fighting style wasn't refined, it was just effective. She lived as a scavenger with a stick for a weapon for her whole life--of course she knows how to fight.

I've been interested in Kylo since the first movie. I love Rey too but I think her positive points (such as self-reliance) did show up better in TFA.

I love Poe and I wish we'd seen more of him or gotten more of an insight as to why he decided mutiny was his only choice. That was a little weird to me.

As for the post, meh, everybody has their own preferences. If Kylo bores you, he bores you. *shrug*
