Build stuff out of wood. Refinish/repaint furniture. Knit and crochet.

-Publish a book. I'm almost done writing, then it'll need an edit, and then I want to figure out the next step. I'll probably just self-publish - though saying "just" in that sentence feels a little misleading because I have to figure out how to make a cover, format, and sell it as an ebook.

-Make really good tamagoyaki. I just bought the pan for it, which will hopefully help me be more successful in keeping them light and fluffy and not look like overcooked omelettes.

-Play the harp. I've always wanted to, but that involves buying a harp.

-Be trilingual. I've been studying Japanese for like a total of a decade and I still feel like I'm only intermediate. I really want to push. My other language, French, is really weak, so there's a lot of work to do.

Be fluent in Spanish. Working on it. Actually, I'd love to know a bunch of languages. It would be super useful in my line of work. but I'm horrible at learning languages.

Movie Club Nominations and some housekeeping

Come nominate a movie! The theme is documentaries!

And remember we are watching The Last Unicorn this weekend!

Also, we will have longer than the usual time to watch the movie. I will also not be doing another vote until the last week of January because the dates are all messed up.

And I may go to only doing this once a month (probably the first two weeks of a month) depending on how much participation is for this movie and the next. I enjoy doing it but it takes up a good bit of time. Nightmare Before Christmas had pretty good participation but the movie before that only had like...2 other people.

Any suggestions welcome for ideas on how to increase participation (going back to movies only on Amazon/Netflix/HBO Go) or just in general?

What are some movie plotholes that you notice but don't stop your media enjoyment?

So I get a snow day tomorrow because it's the South and evidently it's cheaper to shut the city down than to have salt trucks for one day of the year.

When I was a kid in the midwest, we walked to school in the wintry mix, uphill, BOTH WAYS.

What keeps you from writing [x] kind of fic?

I have some pretty good ideas (to me) for a fic, and smut is included. However, I can't bring myself to write it/actually post it anywhere because of the career I am pursuing (i.e. someone will find what i wrote EGADS!!!) Has anyone had similar experiences? What has kept you from writing what you would like to write/post?

Movie Nominations!

It is time for Movie Club nominations!

Theme: For our next movie the theme is Documentaries. They must be movies, no series allowed. Sorry Planet Earth fans. :(

Rules (subject to change):
-One nomination per person.
-Must be available for rent on Amazon or iTunes, but if it streaming on Netflix or Hulu it helps!
-First 15 nominations will be chosen for voting.

Nominations will be open Monday-Wednesday. Voting will be on Thursday-Friday. The winner will be announced officially on Monday*. We will discuss the movie January 20th-21th.

*I will close the poll on Friday (or early Saturday) so you can check the results if you want to see the winner before Monday.
