Oh, that's a bad one.

Shit, most of the stuff that gets captioned on tumblr next to a marilyn monroe picture is pretty bad.

Plus all the introvert stuff.

"Quite people have the loudest minds" *wank hand gesture*

Passing and Coded. I wanted to flip tables when people said Cora is Mass Effect Andromeda was gay coded. Just fuckin admit "Gay Coded" means "They Look gay."

This. It just sounds like someone is trying too hard to be an intellectual. I guess "pings my gaydar" is too offensive now.

Re: What phrase or saying do you find really cringy?

I agree, except that gay-coded was a real thing in old Hollywood movies that were prevented by the production code from portraying gay people in a positive light.

For recent stuff, yeah, I think people should take ownership of their impression of a character and accept that it may not be what was intended or what other people see, rather than try to put it on the creators as a way of strong-arming other people into agreeing.

Thats why I feel so 'blerg' about 'coded' terms to be honest. It just seems like a way to shame people for not having the same headcanons. It makes me sad because headcanons are supposed to be fun IMO. Not used for bullying in fandom.

I feel guilty for this because it is a real thing in some cases. But , as someone who's been seen as much younger (and autistic) and often sort of "infantalized" (or "child-ized" if that's a word) most of my teen and adult life- I really hate "child-coded" and cringe every-time I see it. Even my own well meaning family members often indicated that they find it weird for me to talk about having a boyfriend or dating. It's really really annoying to have people impose the perception of being a child on you.

All that crap they put on jewelry and bags and home goods and whatnot:

"Laugh. Love. Hope. Dream. Smile."

I'm gagging.

Ugh, my work started selling this hideous range of stationery/decorative stuff and it's all in pastel and rose gold and covered with sayings like that. Like journals with 'don't call it a dream, call it a PLAN' on them.

Social media spam crap.

"90% of people on Facebook can't figure out this riddle. CAN YOU?!"
"10 Things Buzzfeed Writes Lists About. You won't BELIEVE number 6!"
"Science Says People Who Don't Make Their Bed are More Intelligent, Better Lovers, and their Farts Smell like Cinnamon" idk you get the idea

Also anyone in general who describes themselves by their Meyer-Briggs quiz result. You might as well call yourself a Capricorn, too. In my experience, those go hand-in-hand, anyway.

I can't stand it when people describe themselves by Meyer-Briggs type because 1) most people don't know what those letters mean without looking it up(including me) and 2) I get the impression that this is either supposed to be an excuse/explanation for their behavior (I didn't need one, and providing one makes them look self-conscious and awkward) or some kind of instruction manual on how to interact with them (it doesn't help me, sorry).

Oh on your last point, I've come to hate the word "introvert" because of how obnoxious people are on social media. "Tips to care of your introvert friend!", "How to interact with introverts!", or whatever other special snowflake everyone-take-care-of-me feel-good crap self-identified introverts post.

I am an introvert, and I've started rolling my eyes at all of that.

All being an introvert means is that I spend energy on social interaction, and gain energy from being alone. It doesn't mean that I'm somehow smarter or deeper than my friend who gets energy from hanging out with other people.

It's too bad that it's gotten taken up by the Tumblr crowd, because the underlying concept -- knowing how socializing will effect your energy levels -- is a very useful thing.

On a similar note, I am so pissed off by people who are using "triggered" when they're squicked or made uncomfortable or as an all-purpose word to shut people up. (Whether it's by claiming to be triggered by something trivial, or accusing people of being "triggered" when they object to something.

"You have to forgive/reunite/say 'I love you' because that person will die one day and you'd regret it!" Um, no. I will do what I consider is best for me and my sanity.

"Oh he/she is so beautiful/handsome" and more over-the-top, well-meaning garbage about a facially disfigured person. I get you don't want to be mean, but this is not helpful either.

"Well, why didn't you tell someone/go to the police/say something sooner?!" If you have to ask... you're part of the problem. Also "It's your responsibility to make sure there aren't more victims like you!" I'm all for doing everything one can to lock up a criminal, but putting all of that on someone in a fragile state is kind of a shitty thing to do.

Branching off of #2, "She has such a pretty FACE" when you're talking about an overweight person. I get it can mean well and may even feel honest, but feels more like a pity compliment or something said to bring attention to the fact that the rest of the person ISN'T pretty.

I have the opposite problem. I lost over 100 pounds but I still have a face that could fucking crack glass.

You talk about this a lot and it seems to bother you to the point of interfering with your day-to-day life. Have you considered cosmetic surgery?

I don't have the money. Plus I used to work in a doctor's office and I knew a couple of plastic surgeons and if you have facial surgery you're supposed to have one specific thing (example, nose, eyelids)changed. I'd have to change my whole face.

guys saying they're pregnant because their wives/girlfriends are. don't you have some offs to fuck?

Re: What phrase or saying do you find really cringy?

I'd find that less irritating if I thought even half those guys pull their weight around the house pre-baby, because you can bet good money most of them won't be contributing even 50% during and after the pregnancy.

Recently, my friend and I started to complain to each other about stupid inspirational sayings, and it turned out we were both thinking of the exact same one in particular: "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss you'll land among the stars."

1. that's so schmaltzy it's painful.
2. That's. not. how. space. works.

The fact that we both saw it and felt the exact same way about it makes me really happy. :)
