why do I do anything

(Anonymous) 2018-01-06 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
No one will ever really like me. I will always be a third wheel.

I am not good.

I am a nuisance.

I suck.

I hate myself.

I want to die so I don't have to feel this stress anymore.

I'm sorry anon. I feel this way a lot too. It isn't true, though. None of it is. You are important. You matter to the world.

1) Being a third wheel isn't horrible. Having a BF/GF doesn't mean shit.

2) Have you murdered someone or something? If not, then you are like the vast majority of the population. Very few people are the mythical "good" that people envision everyone should be.

3/4) I doubt it. Your brain is just telling you so because you brain is sick. Having depression is no different than having cancer or a broken bone.

5) That is your brain.

6) Dying is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

1. That sounds like depression talking. If it was a person, I’d fill mine’s mouth with superglue because depression never says anything worth hearing, and I’m sorry yours is giving you shit. Third wheel=hey, you have at least two friends, awesome.

2. Most people are a mixed bag of good and bad and blah stuff, not saints. Unless you start the day with a baby and puppy sandwich on rye and blow up planets for a living, that’s your depression yapping.

3. If some other person is telling you you are a nuisance, they’re most likely just being an asshole. If it’s your brain telling you this, depression has hijacked your brain and made it act like an asshole.

4. No one is good all the time, or good at everything. I suck at tons of stuff, but I’m good at some things. If nothing else, you’re good at surviving, because you’re still here, which means you can improve yourself and get better at doing stuff you’d like to do. (Also from your post you can spell and work a computer and format a readable post, so yay skills you’re good at)

5. Man, I’ve been there. Fighting off that feeling is hard and I bet you know all your own weaknesses and show yourself no mercy. But you posted this, which means you’re still here and if you stick around for long enough your depression will give you a break. It sucks when it comes back, but the times when you beat your depression for awhile make life worth it. Your depression isn’t all of you.

6. I’ve been there too. But the only way I got past that was to not die so I had time to recover.

Give yourself time. Do whatever you have to to keep breathing; if you’re alive there’s always a chance things will get better. (Hugs) if you want them, and good luck.

Don't be so hard on yourself, man. None of that is true! You're not bad! I like you!

I can totally relate to the things you are saying. I also have depression and it has convinced me that these things are true. But still, you do have people who care about you and want you to live and it's good to remember that.

Anon, keep living, keep breathing; it does get better after a while, I promise. I know this from experience. <3

Oh, I been there.

Trust me, you're wrong about most of these. I know, cliche bollocks, right? But no, I can assure you, I have met so many people who have these feelings that I'm starting to suspect the common denominator is me (like, am I the typhoid mary of self hatred?) Anyway, please trust me on this, I kinda know of where I speak on this one, these feelings feel like they stem from reality, but I promise you, they do not. You are looking at reality through a very warped window. That's what depression does. it warps the window. Your perception of yourself and your place in the world simply cannot be trusted. Like, you wouldn't trust someone with auditory hallucinations to be an air traffic controller, would you? Their fucked perceptions mean they wouldn't know if they were responding to actual information from pilots, or if they were hearing shit that wasn't there. You would recommend that they not be put in a position where their fucked perceptions could lead them to making a wrong and disastrous decision based on incorrect information. And that's what you have, a disease that gives you bad information. Trust me on this. You will not always feel like this. You may feel better in the morning, or next week, or whenever, but your perceptions will shift. It has to be said that you can help them shift quicker and with greater reliability and security with medical or professional help. Again, standard cliche advice, but again, it happens to be true. Of course it's not the only option you have to feel better, but it's the one I have personally observed to have the greater rate of success. But I get that you might not have the means to seek that out. What you do have, however, is a computer and an internet connection. there are places online where you can get help. Shit, just talking the issue through can help. Make sure you're not talking to a pillock, like, don't go to 4chan looking for help, but other than that... Well, shit, there are options. Be wary about trusting your own judgement while you suffer from this illness. You can find support.

TL;DR: This Too Shall Pass.
