I feel like a lot of the reason Emily's leadership style is softer than Hotch's is due to the fact she's been such close friends with these guys for so long. She had ladies' nights with the other women on the team, she'd bond with Reid over nerdy stuff, etc. Yes, Hotch hung out with the team sometimes outside of work, too, and obviously he cared about them on a personal level as well as a professional level. But I think it was still a little easier for Hotch to keep that "boss/employee" barrier up than it is for Emily, if that makes sense.

Plus, I imagine Emily doesn't want to try and emulate Hotch both out of respect to him and also because she figures even if she did try, it wouldn't fit her, or wouldn't work out well.

All of that being said, however, I honestly would like to see a storyline where she does have to get tough with somebody on the team, notably one of the team members she's known the longest, and see what kind of friction could come from that. Ever since she took over she's had to deal with team members coming and going, a team member died on the job, Reid wound up in prison... That's a lot for a new boss to adjust to within a mere year's time, and I wouldn't blame Emily if all of that started to impact the way she ran the team going forward.

I agree, OP!

I loved Hotch for his sensitivity. He was one of my favourites. I never the show was particularly good, but I watched it frequently because I loved the chemistry between the characters.

Too bad the actor turned out to be a piece of shit. The less I know about the real people behind the characters I love, the happier I am. So much damn hate. :(

How did he turn out to be a piece of shit ? For what I can find out about the incident that lead to his firing it really wasn't that bad. Or, at least, both parties were wrong and he apologized the next day. Do you know more about the story ?

This was my impression as well.

The incident that led to his firing was not isolated. He had a history of getting drunk and physically attacking his co-workers. From what I read, he had a very unstable personality and would be friendly one moment and flare up the next. He made so many people stressed and uncomfortable, even his co-stars spoke up about it. He even had to take mandatory anger management classes.

He's a good actor and I was a fan, but that sort of behavior is unacceptable. Someobody who repeatedly gets physically violent with people he works with is not a good person.

I didn't know this, thank you for telling me. Seems like it would be best for everyone (him included) if he stepped out of the industry for some time and went to seek some professional help. Looks like he could be alcoholic and have some psychological/neuropsychological issues (bipolarism ?) that need to be dealt with.
