Jewelry, specifically as a sign of affection. You know, like "My husband loves me sooooo much, look at this rock he got me for our anniversary!" This is mostly because my sister and my niece use my mom to bankroll expensive jewelry because "we want something with memories that'll last!" It's disgusting that they take advantage of her insecurity just because she has money, and the worst part is Mom KNOWS they're using her.

So. uh. Yeah. Jewelry.

YES. In my case, stuff like that bugs me because it so often feels a lot more like showing off than it does a sign of true love. If a guy does buy something nice and fancy for his girlfriend/wife, it should be because he knows she'll genuinely love it, and not because, "I want to show off how rich I am!" And if that's all they buy their significant other, I have to think those sorts of gifts will lose their luster after a while, 'cause there's no real thought or originality being put into it anymore.
