(Anonymous) 2018-01-13 06:23 am (UTC)(link)I don't want my own, but I do enjoy being a cool auntie type person, and I have volunteered for a few different organisations for kids in a mentor/helper role. It's not the same commitment as something like becoming a foster parent, but it does feel good to be able to share some of my time and resources with young people who really benefit from having positive attention.
As a side note, I didn't need any credentials or anything to volunteer. I had a record check to make sure I'm not a creep, they went over what I needed to do and made sure I knew who to talk to if I had any questions. It was really easy.
