What non-original character added to a show made the show WAY better for you?

What character added later ruined the show for you?

I liked 13. I loathed Taub though.

Castiel is the reason I got into Supernatural so hard! I love him.

Negan is basically the reason I stopped watching The Walking Dead. HE IS SO ANNOYING.

I was only ever a casual SPN watcher, and never in the fandom, but I agree, Cas is great. If I ever got into reading SPN fic, Cas would be the character who lured me in.

Same! My friend bugged me to watch the show and I would have it on in the background while I did other stuff, but as soon as Castiel showed up, I was hooked. I should've just skipped the first few seasons and gone straight to where he shows up.

I liked Doctor Who before, but once I got to Donna's season I was really happy. Actually, I loved her in Runaway Bride and was sad she didn't stay even though I did love Martha too.

Hela and Valkyrie made the Thor movies better. Heck, they made the Marvel movies better.

13 and Taub ruined House for me.

Taub was too boring for me to hate as much as 13

Taub was boring, but I found his boringness really annoying. 13 probably edges him out a bit. But I still don't like him at all.

Donna got me into Doctor Who as well. I adored her season and her dynamic with Ten. I'm still pissed about what happened to her in the end.

Donna, and then Bill.

Diedre Robespierre on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was just what was needed to go opposite Ms. White. I suspect she's been styled a bit off of Heather Chandler.

The writing ruined Once Upon a Time, but holy shit Hook did not help.

Made it better:

The Lone Gunmen in The X-Files and haha, Krycek while we're at it

Ruined it:

Nick Hawley in Sleepy Hollow. Like... why, tv creators.

I didn’t even remember the name of the Sleepy Hollow guy; I dubbed him something like Manly McWhitey the minute he showed up. He wasn’t the only problem with season 2 by a long shot, but he was certainly a big problem.

Despite her incredibly impractical, fanservice-y and undoubtedly uncomfortable outfit, Seven of Nine made Voyager a lot more enjoyable for me.

Toph quickly became one of my favorite characters on A:tLA because she's 10 lbs. of awesome in a 5 lb. bag.

In Body of Proof, after Peter was killed in the S2 finale, they brought in a guy called Tommy to be Megan's partner/love interest. Despite never having been mentioned before by anyone, he was supposed to have had a long romantic history with her, with a whole lot of "As you know, you two have a complicated past and working together must be super awkward," and "Don't let the fact that we totally used to be in love and split on bad terms blind you to the fact that I'm right about this case." On top of that, he was a complete asshole, and he and Megan fought pretty much nonstop until the last three minutes of the series finale, where, after saving her from his evil police chief boss who also murdered her father thirty years before, Megan's all like, "I know you've changed and I love you. Let's bone." It's no wonder the show only lasted one season after he joined the cast. 'Course, that last season sucked for other reasons too, but he certainly didn't help.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the Seven of Nine.

She had some of the best episodes, but IMO the worst episodes were "lets all gaslight Seven of Nine."

Better

MASH - BJ, Potter, and Winchester
NCIS LA - Deeks
NCIS NO - Percy
AtLA - Toph
Steven Universe - Peridot

I can't think of any that made stuff worse of the top of my head.
