I've always hated Subway. but right now they have the 5 dollar footlong for ham and spicy italian sandwiches (which are two of my favorite kinds of sandwiches) and it's mighty tempting even though I know their sandwiches are total ass. the mind is a silly place.

Ehhh, sort of, but it's not the greatest sub place. I prefer Jersey Mike's or making my own. Their bread is kind of bland but getting oil, vinegar, and oregano helps.

I hate that Subway has a specific stink that is in every Subway and goes into your clothes if you spend too long inside of one.

As a vegetarian who doesn't generally like fast food, Subway is my go-to safe place. I just get veggie subs with Chipotle sauce. I think they are fantastic. I don't mind the simple taste. I can't speak to the meat subs or by comparison, but I never thought of Subway as tasteless.

Plus those gooey cookies, omg.

Yeah, it tastes like bread and lettuce. That's about it.

I ragequit Subway a few years ago because of how scrimpy they are with their veggies. If I said I wanted onions, they'd give me like two of the teeny-tiniest slivers of onion imaginable. If I asked for more, they'd add one little sliver. Ridiculous. Sliced black olives? You're lucky if you get 5 on a 6-inch. And their meat, my god, you can see through it. It's so thin you can't even taste meat, just preservatives. What fucking cheapskates. I'll buy ingredients and make my own!

I don't even usually like their bread. There's something about the smell that puts me off. I think they put too much vinegar in some of their condiments, though it's fine in small amounts. But damn, if the whole store doesn't smell vinegar-y (which is sometimes combined with a spicy smell of their meatballs, I think).

Italian BMT on the herb and cheese bread with cheddar, spinach, tomato, green peppers and yellow mustard, toasted, is pretty tasty.

Hahaha, I can't believe how passionate a lot of us are about Subway. It's my ride-or-die place, and I kind of want to fight everyone who's hating on it, lol. I never knew I cared so much about Subway before. But at the same time, it seems like not all Subways are created equal. If you aren't used to basically getting an entire salad on your sandwich, then I guess I can understand why the Subway you've had was underwhelming.

All of the subway breads taste like dead styrofoam, and now I'm on one of those weird non-wheat diets, I have less incentive to do Subway.

Many years ago I worked at a Subway on a university campus, and the owner was aware of and sympathetic to the struggles of university students (my husband was one, I was the one working), and would give his employees free meals if we worked at least 4 hours. It honestly saved my husband and I, and I will never forget that and always be grateful and thankful for those meals. That said, I still eat at Subway, I love the veggie subs.

I'm a fan of their Italian Herb & Cheese bread, and their cookies tend to be pretty good, too.

I usually get a toasted Subway Club (turkey, ham, and roast beef ) with provolone cheese on the Italian herbs and cheese bread. I add lettuce, spinach, mayonnaise, salt, and pepper.

Movie Club Update!

I will unfortunately be moving the Movie Club discussion weekend from 1/20 to 1/27. I have to go out of town this weekend so won't be able to put up questions or respond to discussion! But that gives everyone another week to watch Into The Abyss (which is on Youtube, Netflix, and Hulu).

The nominations for our next movie will also be up Thursday/Friday. For this period I am going to pick the second highest voted movie from our previous nine votes. If there is a tie for second, I will pick the one that is streaming on Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime. If none/all are streaming, I will randomly pick one.

Again, any constructive suggestions for Movie Club are welcome.

I recently was rewatching the new Cinderella (with Cate Blanchett) and I realized the Prince's breeches were super tight. Like...definingly tight. It was...rather distracting.

Secret because I was watching it with my mom & who am I going to talk to about this?

Bonus secret: I'm now wondering the state of men's breeches from the 16th to mid 19th centuries (of course, I also panic at the state of hygiene and disease in those times...)
